So opened my ndsl for the 1st time I found this white blob.
Thermal Paste? Never seen it on other peoples tear downs.

its probably some type of insulator, so it doesn't touch any other metal i see that alot on stuff now days , so they dont short out against other components or interfere with other components just a wild guess
-
ahhh alright it was fused into a peg on my case.
A whole hour trying to pull my case open lol
Thanks rodent
-
Wow never seen that before ive opened a crap load of ds lites etc even 3ds never seen that before
Honestly dont think its a thermal paste substance
Sure you didnt spill anything on it?
Ps make sure your careful when attaching the touch screen back on I ripped the black piece on the connector that holds the ribbon cable in place it was a nightmare to solder it on
-
yeah bought it the day it came out maybe mine was rushed o.O
Speaking of that area see that screw near that blob, while taking it out it striped -_-
How can i take it off now lol
I guess dremel it out? hmm...
-
If you try to remove it, you will probably do more harm than good. I suggest leaving it where it is.
-
Jesus screen just flashes white and turns off. Can't reach the monitor connector from this point.
Oh well lol
-
what screen? white screen flashing on and off means it has a dead screen like most consoles itll run a mini check to make sure all the hardware is good if the screen is bad itll turn on and off had a few of these repairs simple swap out the screen good thing is there cheap off ebay
-
ahh guess upper screen is broken, then. But The Screw on the mobo is soo stripped.
I couldnt get it off even if I wanted to now, haha.
I guess this is just a hard lesson to learn. :/
-
u can get that sucker off get your self a drill bit around the same size as the screw and drill that sucker out just becareful not to move it and hit the mobo lol i did it on my iphone s came out fine
-
Matt is right: don't try to get it off. 3D0, you just got lucky i guess lol
I think that is just some kind of epoxy to keep people from bridging connections on the circuit board or trying to probe into the electronics.
You see this stuff all the time on CD drive motherboards:
