PSP Trigger Mod

Introduction
Hopefully the original poster will not mind me fixing this tut for people
origanal thread with broken pictures
https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=13481.0 (https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=13481.0)

Parts Needed

Tools Needed

Step By Step Tutorial
1- This is the wiring schematic for the tri er mod.
2- PREPAIR THE LED’s, SHOULDER BUTTONS, AND POWERBOARD
The first thing to do is cut 2x lengths of wire, one for the positive, and one for the negative, now tie a knot close to one of the ends of each. The knots have two reasons, they act as heat sinks between the two ends, so the solder on the opposite end won’t heat up when you are soldering on the other end, and it helps hold the wires, keeping them from being pulled from their solder points.

Here you see a detailed picture on where to solder your Wires to.
3- And this is how it will look soldered.
4- Noticed how I routed the wires in this picture. Once the wires are tied slip them through the same hole. This picture also shows the points on the power board, you will have to solder to. Notice how I scraped the paint on the supply trace; it’s much easier than trying to solder to those small through-holes, to the left, this is where the positive wire gets soldered. You can also see the point where the negative wire gets soldered. Next, cut the positive wire to a manageable length, and solder the 1x 10-ohm Resistor to it. Alternative: The Resistor may also be soldered directly to the positive contact point.
To prepare the LED’s, solder 1x length of wire to each of the positive and negative sides of the LED’s.
Next, drill the shoulder buttons.
4dp's picture i could not find any good pictures hope you dont mind
                  (https://www.acidmods.com/moddedmatt/whitetoptriggers4.jpg)
5- As you can see, the place I drilled the holes is on the bottom of the button, at the bend, as it is marked here were the glue gun tip is.
6- Use a 3/16” drill bit for the right size.
Slide the LED’s into the holes on the shoulder buttons, and dab a drop of hot glue, into the hole, to seal the LED’s in. This also gives it some structural integrity, just as the knots in the wire did.
7- ASSEMBLE THE COMPONENTS AND TEST
Solder each of the positive LED wires to the Resistor, and each of the negative wires to the wire attached to the ground point on the power board.
Now would be a good time to test it all out, so you don’t have to take it all apart again, if something went wrong.
8- REASSEMBLE THE PSP AND ENJOY
                  (https://www.acidmods.com/moddedmatt/whitetoptriggers7.jpg)
Put it all back together the opposite way you took it apart, turn it on and impress all your friends!
Don’t forget to let us know how it went and if you still have questions, visit the AcidMods forum and ask!

all credits go to 4dP and TheG4mer on this tut i just fixed all this so people have a working tut instead of keep asking how to do it

if you like how i fixed this tut please karma me

is that copper wire you have used

and i think you should have soldered to the resistor as shown of the picture

yup its insulated copper wire and i soldered the resistors onto the leds

hi again i was just wanderin if you could post a circuit diagram for an led mod where if i press a trigger the led at the umd will light up and it will do the same if i press the other trigger :#1:

i dont know that much but try finding the the pin to the triggers and try if the leds work when pressing the trigger solder to there but make sure to use a resistor if needed

Hey sorry if this is a nooby question, but in the part of the tut here:

Notice how I scraped the paint on the supply trace; it’s much easier than trying to solder to those small through-holes

I don't understand it. How do you have wires soldered to contact points, is tied and stuck through a hole, and wired to leds? Also, how do you scratch the paint on the supply trace? Could you show a more detailed picture of that step? I'd appreciate it very much.

Thanks in advance,
Justin

Im being really noob but do you have to use that type of wire? Because I got some 24, 22, 18 gauge wires lying around the house.
And I got some Red Leds(Around 400?).. but they are not SMT its like 5mm REd Led or soemthing from radioshack
Edit: And I found some Electrical tape Heavy Duty 7-mil? And some Silver-Bearing Solders.. And wierld stuffs...

smd's leds are your best bet and about the wire magnet or gauge wires are ok as well

Ahh Okay, I will just look for some at my dad's work I guess, it was wires that I was worried about :] Thanks.
And for Leds, is it because of current and voltage that it has to be specific type? Or is it just size or shape?

I found some 30 awgs but it says White Insulated Wrapping Wire? what is this

if im going to make led mods on my slim, is it ok to tap wires onto the power switch board so that when i switch it on led lights will glow.
where can i find 3.6v point on the switch board, is it ok if i used insulated copper wire instead of using #30 stranded wires, coz its not available hir, #22 is the smallest

no solder the wire

the power points are shown in the picture with 2 pins

i dont know about that wire i just use

magnet or gauge wires are ok as well <<-- look on ebay

well i have been looking through alot o pics and tuts on how to do this but that wont solve any of my problems

here is the thing...my soldering equipment is old..outdated and has no heat control..better off using a lighter.
and i dont have very good soldering skills...nor do i have a steady hand.
so this is what i boils down to. i will pay for someone (TRUSTED AND VERY GOOD AT THIS) to do it for me.
i will send you my green button chip thing and a payment...currently i dont have the led's nor the wires. but if i can get some one to do this for me i will buy this led set LINK (http://cgi.ebay.com/50PCS-0603-Ultra-Bright-SMD-RED-LEDs-dia_W0QQitemZ260255224530QQihZ016QQcategoryZ66954QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
and i will use some for the psp and the rest you can keep...i will only need 2 on my psp ...so there will be 48 left for you to do what ever to it

if anyone could do this for me here is my email ro_diass@yahoo.com

Hey I'm Kinda New with this soldering thing but i know everything that has to do in the files catagories lol. :yess:  i kinda had trouble understanding the wire configuration of the picture under3- And this is how it will look soldered.
can you maybe geta better picture a bigger one explaning where the wires go im 15 and i just want to make the psp look awsome i mean doesnt everyone ?

And one more thing can you tell me what you meant by
"Solder each of the positive LED wires to the Resistor, and each of the negative wires to the wire attached to the ground point on the power board."
didnt you already do that step? I mean solder the positive led wires to the risister which is on the circuit/powerboard ?    how easy is it to do this ? do you think i can do this i am a beginner with no soldering skills
PLZZZ HELPPP!   :beg: :beg: :beg: :whoosh:  :help:

+KARMA on your work by the way!

sorry but them are the only pics i have i had to rezise the picture from a 100x100 to 800x700 so im sorry you cannot really see much.

people plz stop moaning about the pictures if you want better pictures plz ask others for them i dont do moddings for anyone so dont ask if you want someone to mod your psp got to mods for hire thread.

i understand the soldering to the board but where do they go to after.. i meen when you make the not thing how does that connect to the leds.. is it a not on the ends or in the middle of a whole wire
Title: Re: PSP Trigger Mod fixed pictures
Post by: whitetop on August 01, 2008, 06:41:02 AM
if you make a not at the end you make it easyer to solder the led and solder to the bourd. as you can see when soldering the leds without a not the wire is harder to solder and sometimes the the wire comes away when trying to solder the other part of the led so with a not there is not strain on the wire which will make it easyer to keep the led connected.

hope that helps

I dont get the part where you route the wires after soldering. So u poke the wires through the hole, and then solder the 2 other ends of the wires that arent tied, to to negative and positive points, right? Then where do you solder the leds on to?

thats were you get the power solder the other end to your leds and theres your trigger mod
Title: Re: PSP Trigger Mod fixed pictures
Post by: ndru98 on October 03, 2008, 03:13:10 PM
Dude.. I know that... but then, Im asking, in the picture, it says to make a knot at one end of the 2 wires, tie a know, and slip it through the whole. and the other end goes to ground and positive. Or... do you make the knot in the middle? Or.. like.... from the 2 ends, you wire 2 wires from negative, and 2 wires from positive... then like.. solder those to LED?
Title: Re: PSP Trigger Mod fixed pictures
Post by: whitetop on October 03, 2008, 04:03:17 PM
as you see in the picture the not is stopping the wire from beining pulled from the soldered points so if you make the not pull threw the hole then the not should be onthe front of the board so if you pull on the other side the not stops the pulling so while you solder the points then the leds you can keep it all connected
Title: Re: PSP Trigger Mod fixed pictures
Post by: ndru98 on October 03, 2008, 04:25:33 PM
Ok... so the knot.... keeps it from falling out.. and you tie the know at the end right? Then use the other 2 ends to solder to ground and positive, right? Then where do you solder the LEDS to? O.O
Title: Re: PSP Trigger Mod fixed pictures

Title: Re: PSP Trigger Mod fixed pictures

ok were the power points are on the power board make a not the thread it in the hole and solder the short end to the power board and the long end for the leds
Title: Re: PSP Trigger Mod fixed pictures
Post by: ndru98 on October 03, 2008, 07:28:51 PM
O!!! Thats what I was asking, do I make the knot at the end, or in the middle. But now I get it.. you make it like so one end is smaller, the small end goes to the + and -. And the other end goes to the LEDS... lmao, I get it.. then the resistance goes where? O.O

i want to buy these LED's here: http://www.unique-leds.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=1736 (http://www.unique-leds.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=1736)

so should i buy this resistor here?:http://www.radioshack.com/sm-10-ohm-10w-5-wirewound-resistor2-pack--pi-2062291.html (http://www.radioshack.com/sm-10-ohm-10w-5-wirewound-resistor2-pack--pi-2062291.html)

where should i get 30 gauge wire from(specific link?)

where exactly do i solder the resistor to?

thanks in advanced!!

mount work better for led swaping just get normal 0603 leds

for the wire go to ebay or coolmods if they still sell it.

the resistor is shown in step one

ok, so i took a look at the image in step 1 and i just need you to clarify it to me

how do both of the leds positive wire solder to one side of the resistor? because the other end of the resistor has to be soldered to the positive point on the board, only leaving one point for a led to be soldered to.

and also, kinda the same question for the negative wires. how do both leds negative wires end up only soldering to one spot on the board

thanks again
hopefully ill understand this after this question

Each led needs 2 wires that how they came about into 4.Yes you do need a resistor cuz it is directly connected to the 3.6v source.

Ok I am a bit confused on how to wire this so I am going to post two wiring diagrams and I just wanna know which one is correct.

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi161.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ft210%2Femeraldflame0%2Fledconfig-1.jpg&hash=d63dfe1517867206cd26c70cf6f03f7ca363ae44)

so just wondering which one is correct as the first would be easier but for some reason the second seems more correct. or will either one work. and if neither work could someone please post a wiring diagram. Also the board in mention is the circle square triangle x button board. Thanks for the help

will it matter that I am going to use red led's. will the 10 ohm resistor still be ok for that.

O!!! Thats what I was asking, do I make the knot at the end, or in the middle. But now I get it.. you make it like so one end is smaller, the small end goes to the + and -. And the other end goes to the LEDS... lmao, I get it.. then the resistance goes where? O.O

the resitor goes on the negative wire. the gold strand on the resitor should be away from the led.

No no the resistor goes on the positive wire not the negative. It doesnt matter witch way the bands face guys i done this a many times and it doesnt matter.

Hey Hello,
I'm sorry do post in here, but i'm not able to start a new thread..I hope someone can help me..

I want to make the sound reactive trigger mod with the hold button as ON-Off-Switch...

I think it shoud work like these:
I get +5voltage from the speakers, from there i go to the hold switch, then from the switch to the leds and finally to the resistor on ground..

in theory it should work, but i have not had a look inside my psp..So could me please anyone tell if this is working?

Thanks in advance

ps: sorry for posting it in here and also for my bad english

edit: sorry ..now i have figured out when i get from one Speaker both leds are set a light..
so i have do do i it the other way.ihave to go from the speakers to the leds and from there to the switch followed by the resistor and ground..

Now I'm right,or?

Talk with one of the admins they can help you.
Look through the PSP sections or maybe the TUT sections you may find what your looking for. I believe thats where the trigger TUT is located unless it was moved.

um, im sure you put the Resistor BEFORE the LEDs mate, on the POSITIVE side...Basic NooBy Mistake!!

(Data from- http://www.phenoptix.com/DataSheets/DATASHEET.pdf (http://www.phenoptix.com/DataSheets/DATASHEET.pdf))

and i dont use a resistor when going from the speakers... its 2V constant and 3.3V max i think... will need to get out the MM and check for you!!
... I seem to be seeing a lot of Tuts with that backwards advice.
and yes you wire from

Positive(speaker~)>Switch>Resistor>LED>Ground (speaker~)...

I would use DIP switches to turn them all on or off if you want to do a Dual LED mod,( 2 sets of LEDs in each L+R button!) as you can only use the hold switch to turn on one set of LEDs... so if you use 2 channels... like left and right Speaker for EG (see Utube Vid Below).. you would need to have 2 swithces otherwise you would not have 2 channels, you would cross wire the 2 curcuits!
