I believe it has to be less then 4.3 its been a while i did mine a while ago and all you need to do to mod it is a 2gb sd card or more... pretty simple to do ... take your time and read  thru tuts.. we also have some info here on homebrew channel i think.. been along time..

You can find broken wiis for 10 - 20 bucks and if its only the disc drive its an easy fix.

to replace the dvd drive is around $65 to $90  so gotta becarefull unless you can find a laser but usually on those you have to replace the whole thing due to the way they work sometime just worn out completely

That's not true rodent, my wii HDD uses fat 32 format for the games.  I just drag and drop.

Also, I hacked 4.3 for a friend a while back.  Followed this guide: http://gbatemp.net/topic/171901-modify-any-wii-43-below/ (http://gbatemp.net/topic/171901-modify-any-wii-43-below/)

Feel free to contact me with any questions :D

Idk what your saying to me that isnt true but if you read its been a while since i done this mod.. also alot has changed since i done my mod. Reason i did it cause there  was a high demand at the time i did it that people wanted theres done.

Got any info on how to update a modded wii from say 4.1 or 4.2  to 4.3?

Hey rodent, the link i pmed you shows how to mod/update any wii on any dash. My wii was a 4.3u which was soft modded and worked fine. Just doesnt have the same brick protection features as others. Following that tut, I was able to get it downgraded to 4.1 which gave me all priiloader and bootmii functions as well as being a bit more stable.

As for the op, following that guide would pretty well mean you would not need a disk drive at all.

I would still suggest soft modding and using Wiiflow. You can rip all your games to an hdd which gives you faster load times and you dont have to change out disks. I honestly modded my wii just so i could put my original disks up since i have a 4 and 7 year old. They do not take good care of disks...

Would I be allowed to make a tutorial for modding wii and links to all the Optional software? Just think it would help people Get an idea of what they could do.

What components/parts of the wii remote are involved in powering on the controller? Got a wii remote that won't turn on despite not having any corrosion. I have heard about some fuses, a 4v 3300uf capacitor and other stuff, but don't understand it. People over the internet use multimeters to find out where current is not passing through so that they discover where the issue of it not turning on lies, but how can I do that if I don't know where current passes through? Please help.

PS: don't know whether or not this is the right place to ask this, so please tell me where I should ask this question if I'm in the wrong place.
