Title: PSone screens are excellent - need help? Please ask.
Post by: bacteria on February 02, 2008, 02:08:49 PM
The PSone screen is widely used on BenHeck by myself and other modders, as the screen is of good quality, good refresh, takes RGB and composite video (or S-video and RGB with a simple hack) and 5" which is a good size. It also takes stereo audio, has a built in audio amp, reasonable video definition (320 x 240, 640 x 480 interlaced). The system is easy to open and mod, and runs on 7.2-9v, about 750mAh with unmodded screen.

They have been used for console modding  :psp: , connecting to VGA and used on the front of a computer, playing video from camcorders or even as a digital picture frame.

There are guides on the BenHeck forum on Portable Screen Hacking, but if anyone needs further assistance, please post questions. I have learnt a lot about using these screens in projects and happy to assist if you have any queries.

They can be bought still on e-bay. I have a few of them for projects, got them all off e-bay.

I got an old broken PSOne (the slim one), that doesn't read discs and from as far i can tell, the little screen i got for it works fine.
Got pinouts for say...
Composite (Video and both audio)
Because i was thinking of making a little screen for my Wii, recycling saves the planet ¬_¬ (ok, its because im a cheapskate... happy now :P).

Sure - pinout (extracted from postings on BenHeck site, these aren't my pics):

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimagehost.rabidusmaximus.com%2Fuploads%2Fb99ee8dd4d1fd20e42f75a311d145a8b.jpg&hash=6cabee3e5a57961cd015e63e0239908f7c50bd92) (http://imagehost.rabidusmaximus.com/uploads/b99ee8dd4d1fd20e42f75a311d145a8b.jpg)

So: composite: slot 2, pin 1
5v power: slot 1, pins 1 and 2
Ground: slot 2, pin 4 (you can use any Ground connections)
Right audio: slot 2, pin 2
Left audio: slot 2, pin 3
Solder the slot 2, pins 5, 6, 7 together otherwise you won't get any audio.

Make sure you wire the 5v from the back of the PSone screen mobo to pin 12 (slot 1). Make sure you also connect a Ground from the PSone screen to your system.
