Title: MKV movie files on Wii

A co worker of mine asked if he could mod his wii so it can play his movie files on the wii. namely MKV files.

Any thoughts?

WIIMC should be able to play those files
but then again the wii does not have the horse power or video processing power to play the file if it does it might play them choppy

Wow it has been a while since i messed with a Wii but i will see what i use on mine for movies. :)

so after a little looking around, it looks like I can soft mod the wii to install the homebrew channel, then I can play WIIMC through that.

will doing this affect netflix hulu and such items? does it become offline only like a jtag 360?

no it shouldn't affect it   being it still plays like a normal wii i haven't messed with mine in a while but you should be able to use netflx and hula still since there serperate then the wii server
