Post by: RoBot1ks on July 02, 2008, 08:50:54 AM
Ok...With the help of pinoyballa I found the motherboard I want to use.
Here is a list of the parts I am going to buy.

If anyone has good recommendations, please tell me, otherwise I don't want to spend any more money than I already am.

cheap? wtf thats like a down payment for a car . why would people spend thousands of dollars on computers? you can get a decent one for like 600

Yeah, mine was $3000 too, its an amazing machine, and no way could i get something like this for $600, the casing alone is more than that LOL

same here, and its at least another 1000$ w/ accessories (including the ram upgrade) for my entire setup..note i said entire, as i have a lot more than just teh computer...cooling stand, speakers (which i plan to replace soon..), external monitor, 4 external hard drives (one is my movie/media/backup drive, others are backups and random media)...various programs..

good luck on building a computer

i built two, and loved it, great experiance and you learn a LOT (i did, as the first was in a group in a computer-centric class)

Wow and I thought I didn't pick good parts for it. haha..
Yeah I kind of wanted to keep the price to a minimum, but keep some good qualities...( Intel core 2 Quad...500gb hdd.)
Thinking on buying a Terabyte hdd, but they are like $200 (Terabyte= 1000gb)
I am going to be using my mom's desktop monitor. And I also have another 160gb Hdd I am going to use as a slave for backups

I think it may be a good idea to splurge on a power supply that is 750 watts or more and if your  into gaming maybe get a 3870 video card. But that is just my oppinion. I like the motherboard layout and the q6600 that is a kick butt processor. Overclocking? Oh and were is your ram?

The motherboard supports up to 16gb of ram at 64 bits
I might get about 4gb..depends on how much money i have at the time.
I was thinking about overclocking, but know nothing about it.
Not much of a gamer, but with that 500gb hard drive, I will definitely think about it.
I just picked that power supply just because it was clear and had lights.
What is a low cost 750watt power supply?

**Still open to new ideas**

Oh and by the way i am in love with that multi function panel. what do yall think?

Get the 500Gb for now, you can add more later.

Get a 750W PSU, and a 4850, which came out like 5 days ago.

Also, Noah, you spent $1000 on accesories? I've spent 0! LOL

Does the 4850 work with intel? AMD made it

Anyway, i just want to have something to do over the summer other than working...this pc is not NEEDED. I just wanted to have the experience and a cool desktop

I highly recommend you buy an sli/crossfire supported motherboard, and that you get at least a 600watt psu.  as for the case look for something that has a few big fans (120 mm) instead of lots of little ones.  Having fewer but larger fans will provide more airflow and decrees the sound level of you computer, you probably rather listen to the sound coming out of the speakers and not your case fans. for the graphics card I would also recommend that you start with buying a better card.  I was actually using that exact card for my computer when I first got it, I just upgraded to an XFX 8800GT Zalman cooling edition, by FAR a better card.   So I would try looking for either an 8800 or a 9600 every thing is going down in price so even if you can't find on for too cheap just give it a little bit and there drop.

Here's my new computer, so you can use this as a comparison, all I've done is upgrade the gpu to an 8800

Here are some different parts that may fit your budget.

Mother boards/cpu (I prefer to bundle them together):
http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3208228&CatId=2406 (http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3208228&CatId=2406)

if that doesn't work try browsing through compusa they have some really good deals and bundles for parts, just make sure you get an sli/crossfire (nvidia/ati chipset) enabled motherboard if it has that then your good to go. :)

RAM:

GPU (graphics card):
http://www.compusa.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3525730 (http://www.compusa.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3525730)

Cases/psu (I'm personaly am not a fan of the all Acrylic cases I think they look very cheap an low qualty)
http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3970613&CatId=1846 (http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3970613&CatId=1846)
I just pulled that out becuase it was both the case and psu, which saves some money, however that is also a damn good looking case in my opinion.

you already have a good hard drive pulled out, idk about the dvd drive through I would probably go with a lighton though.  I've added 30 for the cd drive and 80 for the harddrive to my final price.

so with all these parts your final price comes out to be $815

well I hope I helped good luck with building you computer :)

hardly $700 is cheap for a good computer.  lets see I've got about $1400 in my computer right now, that includes the computer with the monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc.  and I'm going to be putting another $200 or so into it for a second 8800 GT and Razer lycosa keyboard.

Don't double post please. And about the graphics it really comes down to personal preference although NVIDIA sees to do slightly better than ATI.

I would buy the best GPU you can, and a 4850 is similar to an 8800 GTS, but the 4850 handles DX10 far better.

Incorrect, 4850 is like the 9800 GTX in performance and runs games at higher settings AND faster than the 8800GT (better than GTS). 4870 best the GTX 260 in a few points incase you wanted to know. Ati did well with this round of cards, they just dont have anything that leads in performance yet (GTX 280 is best right now).

"AMD stated that the Radeon HD 4850 was to compete with the GeForce 8800 GT and the Radeon HD 4870 was to compete with the GeForce 9800 GTX. Well, it seems this needs some revision because we experienced even better performance than expected. The Radeon HD 4870 is perfectly poised to compete with the new GeForce GTX 260." - [H]ardOCP

4870 can be found for around 300 bucks, 4850 around 190 (all in USD). Btw, 4850 overclocks like a beast so if you plan to do that you now know what card to get.
