British Prime Minister David Cameron is meeting with ISPs to discuss the prospect of internet filtering, after pressure from campaigners over the ease of viewing adult entertainment for children. Right now ISPs and parents in the UK have the option of putting parental controls in place, in effect an opt-out system, to block porn from their children’s eyes.
While I can definitely see their point about the warping of tiny minds being incredibly easy as the internet basically is porn, but it’s a worrying censorship path to take. With sites Like the Pirate Bay being blocked by the ISP's under court order, and Porn turning into an opt in service, it looks like a free and open net has well and truly gone out the window
I’m all for protecting our kids, but surely an opt-out system would be better for the people who actually have kids, than making the rest of us hold our hands up and opt-in. I simply can’t imagine how awkward that conversation with your ISP is going to be. No granted there are ways around stuff like this and depending on the age of the kids (14 or so) they are more likely to be the ones using the workarounds.
What do you think? good idea or Very bad!

if parents would spend more time with their kids and monitor what they are doing, this would not be an issue.

there are free software to block porn,keylogger,filters on new modems/old as well, isp's most anyway before connection as this stuff if you want a filter on.
i agree and have said it since my first son was born if parents acted as parents you would not need anything. were i live you got more dirty girls at 9 than you have in the Philippians i tell ya that and most have said its porn its the only way they find out about sex cos there mom/dad just wants the child benefits and tax credits.
ive had fight's with people due to them doing stuff like this.
but i can say one thing that they will find next to use to view it TOR

I like the idea of the opt out system. If the ISPs just have a page where you can log on to and change your opt out settings. that way anyone who wanted to could just "forget" the opt-out porn box. it could also be a great place to opt in to TOR and torrents

this is just a big box of fail. they are wanting ISPs to invest in network to make it faster in the uk however a system like this will cost millions to impliment if its going to be even slightly effective and unless they want to absolutly cripple the business market then all a kid would need to find out a bout is how to use a vpn and all the protection would go out the window
