Title: (tut) make ur jewel transparent/frosted for free
Post by: ryan0 on December 08, 2007, 01:46:19 PM
this is a super easy mod you can do with things that are lying round the house that looks awesome especially with some lights behind it
making the green jewel frosted crystal while keeping the silver xbox writing
you will need:
flathead screwdriver
xbox jewel
an xbox (duuuuuuh)
isopropyl alcohol or other sticker/glue removing solvent or cd scratch removal solution

1.gently pry around the jewel with the flathead screwdriver slowly getting harder and harder be really careful or you'll snap the jewel

2.remove all of the black foamy stuff/glue from both the xbox case and the jewel with some isopropyl alocohol and a wipe
tip:leave the isopropyl alcohol on the black stuff for 10-15 mins before you start to wipe/peel or it doesnt have time to dissolve the foamy crap
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE A SHARP OBJEcT TO SCRAPE IT OFF  OR YOU WILL SCRATCH THE JEWEL SO DEEP U WONT BE ABLE TO SAND IT OUT!

3. glue the jewel back in and there you have it your own transparent jewel

if you want to frost it just get some fine grit sandpaper (i recommend 600-800 grit) and sand gently in the same motion each time, and i mean VERY gently

use a wet and dry sandpaper (black)

800p for ideal results imo, really good stuff and your jewel will stay smooth as some really smooth generic object

hydrogen peroxide and isopropyl alcohol are different but it should do the trick!basically any strong solvent such as white spirits or cleaning products like limescale remover or even cd scratch removal solution,or nick some wd40 from the shed lol

yup the hydrogen peroxide did its job, and i couldnt find my scratch remover, but if your saying wd40 works then ill problly use some of that for next time, i bmx so i always have a can of that stuff laying aroud to lube up chain, tire bearing, etc.

i posted pics on here so if you want go check them out

im pretty sure it does work, im pretty sure i tried it with one of my jewels bt i dont remember, it obviously got off somehow.

and im gonna delete this little "conflict"

and treemty. its fine that he revived a topic like this, it wouldve been a problem if it was some other random topic that was stickied for months

Thanks guys :)

I wouldn't call it a conflict, he was just trying to give some advice on rules. No hard feelings :)

there's this polish that's called "brasso's" that i've used to get that green paint off.  you just need to soak it for a bit and use elbow grease to wipe it off.
no scratches

have all the materials, but never finished.... oh well.
maybe sometime in the far far future.

yeah, but time is too limited + I don't have the tools.
I would have to go to friend's house or parents' house to use them.
lots of planning and measurement.

If I do continue this, it would have to be in the summer when there's more time.

I barely have time to play games and do psp mods and rapid fire mods.
:)
