Would i have to primer the case before applying spray paint to it?
I am going to put Pearl White spray paint on it and then apply a design to it using a stencil.
Do you have to sand it as well or not?
-
you can, you should
but you dont have to
-
If you do sand it,paint won't scratch off even if you drop it down hardly,if you don't it will.
I learned that from my ds that I only sanded the top part...
It fell of my older brother's pocket while he was riding a motorbike and the top part paint remained intact.
The rest got a bit scratched off.

It wont drop or anything because it will be on a table.
Is this a good clear coat to use:

I never did my PS2 but I did lots of other plastic stuff.
Make sure you clean it good with a drop of Palmolive, I am talking scrub it. Then make sure you use gloves cause the oils on your fingers I found will do some weird stuff to paint. In fact if you use a plastic paint adhesive promoter it would do you wonders. Plastic also has oils in it that I have seen do some funny things to paint.
I personally wouldn't paint a PS2 unless its gunna be a very good job so I would say to at least go the whole nine yards with prepping and sanding.

depending on the other paint, so say:
matal paint with clear coat for plastic = X
Plastic paint with plastic clear coat=O
matal paint with metal clear coat+=O
basically, depands on what paints going with what
-
Im going to use plastic pearl spray paint.
Will metal car primer be any good on it?

Metal paint should be good, it lasts longer

heres the steps to ensure a good even and smooth paintjob,i assume u have it apart already :D:D :
use a medium grit sandpaper and go sand the entire area to be sprayed, not too hard just make it matt coloured
wipe it with a wet cloth to get rid of dust
give it a blast with a hair dryer on medium, dont hold it on the same spot for too long though!this is too evaporate any moisture and it also significantly helps the paint to stick
then lay down your primer,i recommend car primer
lay down a thin striker coat, basically spray a thin coat of your paint and i mean very thin over your primer
start laying down your coats
the more coats you do it in,and the less paint u use in each coat, the better your paint job will be trust me
spray evenly and slowly from around 14-15 inches away
allow 30 mins between each coat
use around 7 thin coats per can of spray paint,
follow this advice and u will have one sick ass paint job!
