well if its a 0603 led then at the bottom of the led you'll see a green marking that looks like |- that. what ever the - is pointing to is the negative. now if you're using like a 3mm or 5mm led. then just test untill you see it light because idk how to tell ahah

thanks anthonyta, i and using 0603 and i just got my leds after i posted this topic and i see the sideways looking t thing, so what it points to is negative thanks

scroll down a little.... they have pics of 0603 leds and they show you which side is positive or negative

Special thanks to Neubit for giving me this picture but if you're working with 0603 LEDs you'll notice that there's a green triangle on it. Up above shows how to test the LED:
You do it by soldering wires to needles to a battery (for testing mine I just pulled out the battery out of my DS lite).
But remember don't touch it for too long as you can explode it that way.

You'd be MUCH better off using a multimeter with a diode test function
guarenteed not to blow the led
if you really dont have one at your disposal, make sure you put roughly a 10 ohm resistor between the wire and pin on the positive leg
