Title: usb mass storage teaser
Post by: PvP_LostKnight on January 08, 2008, 09:46:40 PM
im currently working on my second usb mass storage project that will make the psp a usb host. it will allow connection of ANY usb flashdrive/usb hdd to connect to the psp. right now right now im decidng whether or not to use a modified version of irshell or trying to design an xmb icon that will access the usb port as a usb host (unlike going the typical usb icon in settings and turning it into a usb slave). the tut will be released to either the 300k or higher club.

Well good luck, i know you have used a long time doing this, i think you can do it.
I hope you do the XMB part, but hey your the modder you decide.
To bad im not in the 300k club, i think i would have done this.

Oh, right, so the 300 club. Got it. I look forward to this, I'd go for a standard XMB icon though, not IRshell.

do you have any programming skills? i guess you would have to use a plugin to make it work in the XMB....
so how do you stand there? just curious...

I like the Idea of the XMB icon, IR shell doesn't excite me too much.   (working on my way to 300 posts...helpful contributions are gonna be rough =P )

Just curious, would something like this be limited to usb memory or could it interface with say a webcam or a keyboard?

300 club was set up to get rid of useless guppys that join to just get a tutorial and support. its to strengthen and increase the membership database.

300k club?? what the hell, ok i understand u dont want people to come here just to get tuts but make it 100+!! no one that has 100 posts is here just for tutorials. it will also increase spam! because the people that are here just for tutorials will write :censored: in forum just to get 300 posts, think of that....

This isn't exactly fair for us that have just some post.

Just because we have barely any posts here, Don't mean we are ALL NOOBS.

I'm a MOD at PSPiso and I currently have 2,867 Posts and growing.

I happen to disagree,  just having small amount of post don't make U a NOOB.

Having allot of posts doesn't mean U are no longer a NOOB.
U can have less posts then any other member and still know more.

Some people just choose to talk less and only answer when needed or there is something worth answering 2.

I wouldn't exactly screw around with pvp, he could just as well not release this and laugh at everyone going "wtf uz gotz hdd'z for pspz!!! givez now!! LOLZ" and that wouldn't be lolz for any of us, noob or not.

were not saying you are all noobs what we are trying to do is build our membership with useful people who dont just come here to spam or to grab tuts. so it will be 100 posts which isnt hard to get if you look around and try and help out in any part of the site there are pleanty of topics as well that are in general discussion that can be commented on. and we are unlikly to have a problem with spam as we have admins and moderators on here who we trust and who's sole purpose is to get rid of spam. and a post can be anything from commenting on a mod to makeing a suggestion to selling or buying something from the auction area. you could even if you have the skills in that area make a tutorial for the software side of the psp or if you have found a peice of software for any of the consoles or the pc you could post about it here with your experiences what it does and why it was useful. contribution and posts on this site arnt just for the release of mods they are also for the congratulations of peoples achievments and the general chit chatter about consoles and computers.

so all you have to do is spend a bit of time reading around and enjoying the site and sooner or later you will come across something that is worthwhile posting in or about. plus we have strict rules on this site so spam and useless posts arnt tolerated and are deleted straight away with bans brought into place if it carrys on

it makes sense what you said, PvP. I just recently joined the site and personally am a noob . At least with this kinda stuff. But, I hope that ,you know, over time I'll be able to do something like this. The POC was amazing. I hope I'll get to read the tut someday.

I'm very interested to see this tutorial. My only concern is whether or not the mod can be adapted in such a way that it doesn't require soldering directly onto the mobo, since that would just about cut me out of the running straight away. It's been said this mod uses an iPod hard drive, so is there any way to use an iPod battery to power the drive(thus easing the power drain on the PSP)?

Also bearing in mind you would have to have a means of charging the Ipod battery internally as well.  Or you could proved an external usb or something to charge from.

If there was a way to use the iPod in disk mode while running on it's own power, then all one would need to do is charge the iPod when they charge the PSP(or charge one, then charge the other, anything like that). While kludgy, I wouldn't mind just clipping my iPod as is onto the back of my PSP and hook it up via the USB port.

so no soldering or any hard mods would be required. just plug in and go?

Holy crap that'd be so sweet.... Wait are u any good at programming?
Title: Re: usb mass storage teaser
Post by: freestyle72 on January 09, 2008, 08:58:09 PM
So PvP are you trying to write a software solution for the psp to behave as a host?  Or are you basically sodering(sp?) the VDIP1 to the motherboard of the psp and usb connections and writing a software for the psp to behave as a host through the VDIP1?
Title: Re: usb mass storage teaser

that would be cool like a plugin or something

I think hes trying to overdo the last internal mass storage mod.. in this case i bet it would be internal and not have the usb cord sticking out of the UMD door. I personally hope that this will have the ability to store eboots, picture, sounds and videos and then find them in the XMB.

although this thread is fulled of off-topic now(starting to get a little better) so i hope it gets a better.  :drunk:

AS convenient as it would be it would be nicer if you could navigate through folders in the xmb because lets say u have like 15 homebrew apps on there and a few back up etc...  You end having to scroll up and down and wait for icons to load ALOT

I thought it wasn't just software limitations that held any one from editing the prx for the usb recognise and enter the HDD as if it was a mem stick. but the PSP Hardware is limited on the functions it can perform. I do't know much but it seams to be a far fetch unless you add some thing to allow for the PSP to be a host. I don't under estimate anyone but his is no walk in the park and thier has to be ppl that know programing as well as lots of info on HDD's and USB's.
Good luck cant wait for this to be done.

i like the XMB idea.

@oggreengiant

start small and work on stuff you dont care about, the last thing you want to do is brick your psp and not know how to fix it.

I started the same way as you with ipodlinux however there is no usb support for ipod linux so I kinda got stuck there.

@ I30 i have a universal pandora battery that installs 3.71 m33 automatically (and its good cuz i brick my psp all the time, lol). What i meant was how to create the software and learn the hardware enough that u can modify it so u can add a analog stick or an extra usb port or somethin similar. I'm very familiar with how to run and install psp software, if u ever have a question in that department i might know somethin about it  :psp:

Learn to read, it was 3 posts above yours.

Also, there is no tutorial existing, stop asking for it, there is none, there is none in the non-existing 300k club, there is none on our secret hackers on steroids website, it. does. not. exist.
