Title: Can CFW PSPs....
Post by: ProperBritish on January 10, 2008, 12:06:56 PM
I have 3.71 M33-4 w/ 1.50 patch. I heard that the older CFWs only supported up to 4GB MSProDuos, and was wondering whether this was still true of the later FWs.

EDIT: Just Realised this is supposed to be in PSP Software

The max is 8gb right now, I forget which firmware update it was that raised it to that.

I imagine it will get bumped up to 16gb at some point soon because sony just unveiled a 16gb MSPD stick.

It's 32 GB

I think the memory is limited to 8gb by the firmware though, unless you use USBhostfs.

I'm under the impression that the PSP has a hardware limitation of 32GB, but the firmware is currently limited to 8.

Sonys firmware, yeah maybe, but we are running Custom Firmware....

Sonys firmware, yeah maybe, but we are running Custom Firmware....

whom basically consists of two different OFW's (one only the kernel) and a recovery menu, and an ISO loader.... I suppose Dark_alex would have a big headline about no limit if he intentionally removed it..

but the limitation is defined by the file systems the psp supports.. so what does it support?!

I would imagine that there is a bigger limit than 8 gb on the storage capacity because sony is coming out with a 32 gb pro duo in 2010 according to an add on digg i saw... but maybe sony intentionaly limited the amount of memory it could accept so people would want to buy one of there mp3 players or something... of course i am just about positive someone will hack that if it is true :yess:

you can have 16gb they are coming out with a 16gb card soon and i am sure it can support much larger size. but i am 100% sure 16gb will work. Maby only with the new firmware 3.80 but it does.

Naw, if 3.80 supported 16gb someone would have heard about it. The fact that Sony is coming out with a 16gb pro duo means that the 4.00 firmware will probably support it.

i think the memory stick limit is very low, i think i read somewhere that because CFW is based on 1.5 we can only get up to 4 GB

IF the PSP supports FAT32 then i guess it supports up to 8TB.
Since we know it supports more than 4GB, we can say it's not limited to FAT16.

i don't have my PSP here now (am at school) so i cant check what form my memory stick is formated in :P
can anyone check if its FAT32 ?

Source of information here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table)

lolwut? PSP has a current storage limit of 32gb. kthxbi

Slimby

PS: Someone please lock this, this is ridiculous. As is the rumour that 4gb cards aren't recognised by 1.50.

Never said they weren't. I said I heard that 4GB was the max

The PSP formats memory sticks to FAT32 so the limit is 32gb, but the firmware currently limits it to 8gb. I've used 8gbs on my PSP so I know it can do it.

The internal memory of a psp is 32mb not 32gb. PSP slim has 64mb. That is why the new skype for psp can only be used on PSP slim.
There is no limitation to the size of the ms but it must be readable for the firmware.
