Title: Trigger Mod Help (yet again)
Post by: platinumc on January 10, 2008, 06:05:28 PM
first of all, hi, this is my first post :D

ive looked other trigger mod topics, but couldnt find an answer.. sorry if im reasking

how much is the psp's voltage?.. cause in one tut in here it said 5V.. and if i buy a 5V led (this one - http://www.dialight.com/productSpecs.cfm?GroupID=1&SubGroupID=1&Series=521-9251&pg=Spec&partNumber=5988091107F), then i dont need a resistor between?

edit - i am also interested that where to i have to solder the wires in my psp?
is there like a big pic of the inside, where all the V spots are marked, and also + and - points

To begin, the psp is generally 3.6v and it can fluxuate on certain areas up to 5.0v. But don't be fooled. Stick to the 3.6v and you'll be safe. Second, when ever modding with led's, I recommnd using resistors. For most led's  mods, normally a 10 ohmn resistor is safe to use. Not using a resistor can cause your led's to eventually burn out. Third, I would recommend using led type 0603 smd,smt which is quite practical here  at  acidmods. I found this led website which I think you're going to find useful, www.unique-leds.com. In conclusion, the power board, right by the on and off led light, is known to be a good power source for trigger mods. Another power source location is right on the mother board. At the bottom, you'll see two white square speaker connectors. The one on your left, you'll see two small solder points. The one on your left is the (-) and right (+). I hope this help out. Good Luck and welcome to Acidmods.

well the link i posted (yeah should have add url's) showed 0603 blue led.

just to be sure

LED I will use (http://www.dialight.com/productSpecs.cfm?GroupID=1&SubGroupID=1&Series=521-9251&pg=Spec&partNumber=5988091107F)

Resistor I will use (http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=TDqdzeDPQdTGZh4ZPeYICA%3d%3d)

will they be okay?

and that V explanation didn't help me though :D.. couldn't quite get it (not native english speaker :D)

edit - and does will this resistor work with all the 0603 leds?... for example

Please hyperlink your urls. :)

The LED is ok, and you don't need a resistor if you only use blue leds.
Here is a detailed picture on where to solder your wires:

thx for replies all...

the picture above, are those 3,6 or 5v spots?

and where are the other places i can solder them (with voltages), and do i need to put every led to a different place, or i can use one same place ?

I think those spots are 3.6v, but i'm not sure. You can always ask to Edhel, he knows alot.

3.6v you can also use another spot on that board but i wont confuse you only do it if your confident and are good at soldering the points pointed out are fine but if you get too much heat on the resistor then u will fry it

i have a broken abxy pad  can take a picture of and show you one mo

thx for some explanation and the last pic... the last pic points are 3,6v then too?

and also, which are better diffused or water clear?

and since blue leds us 5v, i wouldn't need a resistor (altough i have read that some suggest using it, cause it may burn out  - but if i put it to 3,6v then it wouldnt?)

use the points i highlighted in my pic 3.6 is fine with no resistor yes my pic is 3.6 just wire it up

get water clear instead of diffused

its always good to keep a resistor in the circut just to give you peace of mind that you new ?0603 leds? wont burn out.
