Sony has strict watch on the firmwares and if anyone DID hack the PS3 then they would be banned from the PSN
-
Sony CAN brick PS3's through the internet you know, so anyone who did would have no proof, as it wouldnt boot.
-
LOL that would be funny
sony would send something and it would show a very big font saying PWNED!!!!!!!!!!
then it shuts down lol
-
lol
-
dont spam :)
you either :)
and they could just unplug the cables until they got it working and such and they could just waste ps3s until they got it to work the payoff would be huge.
-
lol sony should totally do that, but i kind of don't think someone would keep it a secret. I'm sure they would want the credit for doing it first before someone else found out..
-
your aall PSN this and PSN that, who said hed HAVE to be connected to the PSN, he could do the work offline couldnt he/she/it?
-
Yeah, but what wouLd be the point?

just for the hell of it?

I think if it was hacked already, we would have already known about it. I bet that a smart hacker though, if they did hack it, could just trick sony. I meant tricking by making the firmware stay the same or atleast not appear changed. I mean somehow hid the custom firmware in the ps3 somehow. I don't have a clue how that would work. I guess, wouldn't it be like flashing the xbox 360, but using the the patch thing? I don't really know lol :dntknw:
-
Yeah but is it really possible or even legal for them to be able to brick your ps3 or was that some kind of joke? Besides doesn't sony check all the files on the firmware to see they stay the same? Kind of like online games checking your program to see that no source files were changed, or else they won't let you play.
-
the ps3 has 2 NAND chips, which is why its impossible to brick while updating. meaning we "could" in theory have OFW on one and CFW on the other and just switch upon boot.
-
You mean like dual-booting? and wouldn't the PSN still find out through checking the files? Of course this is saying if you go online with it.
-
that could leave you open for a brick/non hackable system if its dependent on firmware. since if you brick one of the cfw then you have to hope you ofw is low enough to work.
-
Dude even if its done, sony wouldent know. Because if youre smart enough to make a custom firmware for a ps3, then youd be smart enough to hide it from sony lol. well thats just my opinion
-
I think people have already found exploits on the PS3 and are trying or have gotten it to run a "Hello World" already. Hope I can play homebrew soon.
-
Yeah people have gotten the PS3 to do NAND dumps. But honestly i still dont see the point. They would have to know what each file did, and how to change them to enable homebrew using a hex editor. The only reason peole are half interested in hacking PS3 is because of how easy it was to hack PSP when 1.50 came out for that. Sony wont make a mistake like that again, which is why its so hard to hack PS3. Im reckoning on the PS3 the FW is Duplicated across the 2 NAND Chips, and run half and half to make it harder to hack.
I still havent even gotten into the realisation of how would people even code for the PS3? Noone has any idea!
Or, the fact that no sane person would even want to risk having the most expensive games console ever becoming the world biggest brick.
-
Its been hacked, exactly the same way as the PSP, but not released, as it wasnt a working FW officialy.
-
care to share how?
but also i think that it ahs been hacked, because my friend when to the phils and said they sell ps3's there that are able to play psp umd dumps. Only downside is that its expensive, 40gb ps3 for 1000 Aud which was the price of the 60gb when it was out here...
