Title: PSP Won't Start
Post by: psp339 on January 19, 2008, 08:37:20 PM
When I turn on the PSP, it just flashes the green LED and turns off. Before this happened, I was listening to music with a sound mod. Suddenly, I heard the error sound. It didnt have a screen on but i think it was the red screen of death. This isnt my psp so i really need to fix it. can anyone tell me how to fix it? I searched and couldnt find a fix.
here is a video on me turning it on:

If its software then its a brick somehow, but maybe you could have a short somewhere in ur psp from the mod.

I removed all mods(usb charge and sound mod). But it still does that. I really need it fixed.

What soldering to the motherboard have you done?

I did the USB Charge Mod but took it off. It worked. I also did the Sound Mod. I soldered the 5v and ground next to it. I also soldered to the speaker. Everything went fine and the psp worked. Suddenly while listening to music, I heard the red screen of death and the psp froze. I shut it down. Now it doesnt turn on.

make sure there isnt any solder on the 5v point which is touching the gold contact where the screws go as this can sometimes stop it from turning on, it happened to me

Look for black residue on the PCB, thats what shorted my USB charge, I scratched it off and voila

Theres no black residue. The USB charging worked.

sounds like a software brick to me, did i have custom firmware? if so try to get in recovery mode ( hold the R button and start the psp while holding R) or try to make a pandora (check the pandora subforum).
if neither of these work then it is definetly hardware.

Its not a brick. Before i was listening to music. And when i put in the pandora, it just tries to turn on. The green light flashes then off then flashes then off. When i try recovery it just flashes the green light and turns off. Could it be  a blown fuse?? Maybe the power fuse?

How is it a short??!?! I dont have any mods in it. There are no exposed wires. I even took out the motherboard and tried to turn it on.

There might be a spot of solder shorting the 5 volt point to the ground. It's happened to me before several times.

the 5v and the ground isnt touching.

Then it must be somewhere else. The PSP only does that when there's a short.
