PlayStation 3: Phased out, phased in
"Whether it's just an unfortunate coincidence or an ominous portent of things to come, the Best Buy no longer has 80GB PS3 units up for sale. The only thing we found up there were 40GB units.
There's been no official explanation as to why Best Buy has phased out the 80GB units from their product listings (as clued by an internal memo), and at the other end of the line, nothing official has come from Sony - much less any word about a new kind of SKU. Right now though, other online sites still offer the 80GB units"

why? how could sony shy away the greatest product so far in this mordern age's gaming technology. For now, lets just hope its because of bad sales on Best Buy, and not because the ps3 is getting phased out.

They're probably doing this to make way for a new bundle... They probably will make a bundle with a bigger hard drive and a DualShock 3

mabe

no Hdd Size, but getting ready to introduce the DS3's In March Maybe? Trying to control the flow accurately?

very smart idea, mabe.

I think people who think they should go out and get a $500 dollar ps3 just because it has a bigger hdd are dumb. Don't they know they can just put a super ultra big hdd in themselves with very little effort?
-
its just a 2.5m hdd one for a laptop and from what i heard you can just change the hdd sony are just trying to be greedy like micr$oft
-
hmmm everyones greedy these days arn't they :sadno:

The 80GB PS3 is the only one still in production that plays PS2 games guys. That's why people want them. Not the HDD
-
and because its superior to the 40Gb
-
actually those who are saying its a laptop hard drive are wrong, the hard drive may still be 2.5inch but it doesnt have any ide ports, instead it has this pcb(or just plastic) with copper layed on it and the ps3 part has the special port for it. If people want i can take pics but dnt know how to upload pics so would need help there.

UPDATE: the Sony Store has removed the 80gb Ps3 from their catalogs.
New Ps3 models on the way!!
-
They're making a new 120GB model I think....
-
the 80gb PS3 is coming back in June, bundled with MGS4 and a dualshock 3 controller...
-
I actually have to laugh at 'NEW PS3 Model' and '120Gb Model coming soon' Why would they do that? Sony are making sure they dont have any back stock, for the new pack, which reaper has already mentioned.
