"TOKYO - Toshiba said Tuesday it will no longer develop, make or market HD DVD players and recorders, handing a victory to rival Blu-ray disc technology in the format battle for next-generation video.

"We concluded that a swift decision would be best," Toshiba President Atsutoshi Nishida told reporters at his company's Tokyo offices.

The move would make Blu-ray — backed by Sony Corp., Matsu:censored:a Electric Industrial Co., which makes Panasonic brand products, and five major Hollywood movie studios — the winner in the battle over high-definition DVD formatting that began several years ago."

If you didn't know that Blu-Ray was going to win about 12 months ago then you are blind...

i decided blueray would win as soon as it was going to be an internal drive in the ps3. if microsoft had done that with hddvd we would probably be having a diffenernt news story or the war would still be going on

same here, although if the HD-DVD drive was in the 360 I doubt they would have sold as well as they did.

and the whole reason for me to say the Blu-Ray was the obvious winner is because when you have over 10 million PS3's sold compared to less than a million HD-DVD players sold, not even including the standalone Blu-Ray players you have a 10:1 lead...
