Hi I am Kinda New To The PSP Hardware Modding Scene But I have Worked with Hardware for some time.
The Idea i have is Adding a Touch Screen To The PSP.
My Theory is that we Have some sort of PRX Driver for Dark Alex's custom firmwares and a hardware mod to go with it.
the way i think it can be achieved is sumthing similar to the pc monitor touchscreen addon Basicly THis will be a thin sheet of some sort which has current running through it. when you touch it you will cause a short in the circuit which will then determine where you have touched. this is where the driver is used. the driver will move the cursor to the position and click there for us. so simply its alot like the PSPTouchME (which was canceled i think as it was due years ago) but this will be able to work everywhere like the XMB , WebBrowser even homebrew. The Driver could have a configuration menu under recovery mode and the VSH menu but for those we will need the help of advanced experianced programmers. i do think that this has to be done by a team and cant be done single handedly. The Hardware i Think ACID MODS is the Best Place to develop it. :#1:
anyway if anyone has ideas that can help please feel free to share
and if Any one thinks its not possible then Please Leave comments
If anyone Thinks they can do this then Please Please Please TRY :beg:
UPDATE: Here is Somthing that can help http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/question716.htm (http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/question716.htm)
Here Is Another http://www.touchscreens.com/intro-anatomy.html (http://www.touchscreens.com/intro-anatomy.html)
Ok i've been reading the comments and i think you guys have somesort of idea on how it could work. but, what i was thinking was to get some one here to develop the hardware and get someone from the Consolespot network to make a new LG Viewty or IPhone Style XMB. That way if i get hold of a programmer who can program drivers for the PSP we could have have an error handler that would press the buttons for us. If you dont understand let me explain. every key on the PSP or Keyboard Has an ASCII value, if we find those values which i think psp developers should already know then the error handler would simply proccess the task for us. So if we have a LG viewty Style Menu then lets say i turn the psp on and its automaticly on GAME menu then on the right hand Menu when i touch SETTINGS for example it will process the ASCII value of Left 4 times so it automaticlly goes to settings so then when im on settings and i click on WEB then it processes the ASCII Value of right 5 times. I Hope you all understand. i will try to draw up a concept menu system for you all to explain further. this covers the XMB ,ok now lets move on to the rest. WHen You Are in the Web Browser or listening to music or watching a video you will come across different options. lets call them different Forms. ok When i press triangle when listening to music the music option Form is opened which has different options so for those we could use the same theory for the XMB. Any way the same thing for all others aswell. Once We Somehow get the Basic drivers and hardware down The Possibilities are endless. This will not require any internal soldering or anything i think. we just need to get power to the touch panel and a driver to control it.
we can later start implementing this into the custom firmwares and even develop more to go with it and then if we are lucky then we will start marketing it and make a fortune  :hifive: but thats not guaranteed.
I REALY REALY WHANT TO KNOW WHAT F00 F00 THINKS OF THIS.
OR EVEN DARK ALEX IF HES ON THIS FORUM :dntknw:
just let me know what you all think

Me and Timmy completly thought through how to set it up and get it to work. We would need a touch panel though, then I could release a version of PSP Touch Screen Awesomeness. It's hella easy, btw doesn't require any drivers etc.
Anyone wanna donate a 4.3" Touch Panel?
-
someone already made one. its just not very big cant remember the name.
-
The touch screen has 4 wires, just wire them to the Where ever you want, Analog, DPAd etc.
-
The touchscreen should have a driver, else you can't figure out what was under the finger ;)
Any other solution would just replace a specific key on the psp for a special touch and that wouldn't be as nice as touching an icon and seeing the (right) action :)
But plz correct me, if you see another way...
I really like the idea and if you can deep enough in system to get coordinates of icon obj or kind of with an prx plugin... great :)
Haven't ever done prx coding... so I'm not that informative at the moment...
bye

I say analog so you could use the touch screen on browsering in the internet and hook that up to the powerboard X button and you could tap it and such.

But it can display pictures :D and text :D all you need for some AM browsing :D
Also it has friggin flash. Educate yourself.

I'm afraid simply wireing to the dpad wouldn't work ...
I'm not sure what signal and when the touchscreen is sending. Put when I think of touching and then the pointer gently starts moving it just feels kind of wrong ;)
The pointer should jump (and select) to the point I touched. And I don't think, that this is possible without software (means some sort of driver). But _that_ shouldn't be the problem. So, yeah! Go on :)
-
just one question... whats the point?
-
Hi cwn!
Do you mean the "point" as a word I technically used?
In this case read on :)
I simply meant a point as an object containing a coordinate on screen and some data. That's it.
-
adding a touch screen interface to the psp would be so much work... :fear:
-
someone already made one. its just not very big cant remember the name.
I THINK THAT WAS PSPTouchME BUT THAT DIDN'T WORK VERY WELL SO IT JUST WENT DOWN AND NEVER REACHED PRODUCTION STAGES

@raf1qu3:
check your caps lock
-
just one question... whats the point?
Point 1: Go up to a DS user and rub it in there face :winker:
Point 2: PDA apps could be used
Point 3: A whole new batch of homebrew could be released
Point 4: You don't have to use it as a touchscreen all the time, just flip a switch and your set

LoL i WaNted To do IT In CapS. Besides its name realy was like PSPTouchME. So

Foo Foo is a living legand!!! anyway i think this is totally posible with a bit of work

Thanks, I was going to list a ton more, but I went blank and forgot most of them .
