Can you use an ipod hdd though
-
nice find, lets see if we can make it internal!
lol, if it works with ipod hd, then we will have found out what PvP could not tell us.
PS. i sent them a message asking if it would work with an ipod hd.
-
thanks guys. but i might order it just to try it. !!!!!! :drunk:
-
Thats cool, and it's quite cheap 2. :)
Thanks for the news.
-
*is going to look for it in the netherlands to see what size it is :P
-
It should work with an ipod. It is a simple NAS running a simple linux distro. It's basically a small computer. Although it wouldn't be very portable. You would have to have this device and an external usb hard drive. If you already have a laptop then this wouldn't be a good solution for having a large storage device.
-
the best solution for this stuff but definately most expensive would be using the oqo or an ultra tiny computer. :greedy:
only if we had a butload of money
-
I want to point out that USBHostfs is not actually run by the hd, but the "mini computer" inside the enclosure. A hard drive cannot run any program by itself.
-
so.. its not the hard drive doing it, it is the mini comp? how big are these, maybe we could fit one in a psp.
-
Actually you may be on to something. This is actually a small computer that's built for accessing HDs. Just need to flash the mem with a linux distro and have it run usbhostfs at start up. These devices are actually pretty small, the main thing would be wiring a powersupply to make it portable. You could take is apart and put it in a bigger housing, add a laptop hd, and a powersupply. However it will never fit into a psp.
-
jefesand, you seem to know what you are talking about. and as that i know barely anything about software, but a bit about hardware, we can all work together and get this done!
-
hehehe not bad, not bad mabe this will solve PVps mistorys once and for all :dntknw:

Assuming the internals are fairly small, that adapter and an iPod 1.8 inch drive could save a lot on space. Really depends on the size of the board and whatever extra space it takes to power it independently.
*edit*
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSLU2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSLU2)
It has some more info on the device, as well as an internal shot of the board. Think it's feesible to make this puppy portable(semi portable?)
-
Here is a big mod site for NSLU2 devices http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Main/HomePage (http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Main/HomePage) Could help if anyone is interested in trying this. If I only had the funds.
-
ya. this is sweet. :drunk: ........... sorry i just get carried away
-
lol how portable like fitting it in the umd drive then never see it type of portable or like the hdd hangs out and has to be two way taped on the back of the psp. because PVP's is all internal.
but this is a good alternative.
ya. this is sweet. can we do this and release it before pvp. then we can rub it in his face and release a tutorial
pls don't bash some els not cool
-
ya. this is sweet. :drunk: can we do this and release it before pvp. then we can rub it in his face and release a tutorial :yess:
why would you do that?
he is just another modder, it's not like we are all enemys,... :eyebrow:

Honestly after looking at batteries and HDs, it's not really cost effective to turn a NAS in to a protable storage device. You're better off getting an older used ultraportable (small laptop) from ebay. I've been using my lifebook for this for awhile.
On another note. I agree, quit dissing on PvP. The hardest part of his mod is progaming the control chip. I looked into it and figured it wasn't worth my time and effort. So give PvP some respect for even trying it.
-
i think this is basically the same thing PvP did, just not as small.
-
no bro not that simular at all in my opinion. just be paciet it will come in due time.
but like i said before good job finding this it is a good alteritive.
-
you could probably use a drive like this http://www.bixnet.com/307daba.html (http://www.bixnet.com/307daba.html), battery powered and lightweight
