i finally got my bank account number on an invoice letter from my bank so i was able to check my account online
apparently there is 120$ in there i did not know about
so immediately i went searching for RAM upgrades
a 4GB upgrade pack was about 100$ so i was gona get it but then didnt because
1: it wasn't right because i owe money
2: my parents would be pissed if i bought 100$ thing when i owe them thrice that amount...
so i didnt...but my real question is
should i upgrade (im on 2gb right now) and what is the true advantage of 4? if i could play games faster and the system be faster then i'll definitely upgrade eventually (summer job $$$) but will 4GB increase such performance/performance to a noticable level?
also i know there wont be issues with osx (read ahead of time) but with windows would i need to do anything special or should it automatically recognize?
thx....

XP can recognize 3.5 gigs of ram and vista can recognize 8 gigs, but i'm not 100 percent sure of the numbers. I do know however that it will not affect the computer in any harmful manner. You could have 16 gigs of ram but only a portion of it will be used.
-
You don't really need more than 2 GB unless you're on Vista, lol...
-
yeah i know that (vista is a ram hog...)
but will i be sufficiently more advantageous with more?
i did see a video on youtube of someone starting up his macbook pro..had same specs as mine except for more RAM and it tool like 3 seconds...i kinda want that
but what exactly will it do, i know how much my conputer can support..but i wanna know exactly whats gona change

youl be able to run a few more apps at the same time and games will be a little quicker. the only way its going to be noticeable is if your upgrading from 512mb to 2gb
-
2Gb to 4Gb will be noticable depending on what you do, such as Photoshop, MSN and Music etc.
OS X is 64 Bit so it will easily recognise 4Gb

yeah i know that, and my computer itself supports upto 4GB....seems like the perfect amoundyoul be able to run a few more apps at the same time and games will be a little quicker. the only way its going to be noticeable is if your upgrading from 512mb to 2gb
sounds good still (refer to matts post above. i do some ofthat stuff) and the apps and games being faster is very appealing
im gona go for it when im out of debt! k thx for all yall's responses

just make sure the ram is compatible with your comp before you buy it. it would suck to get it and find out its the wrong kind.
-
Just go onto Crucials website.
-
It also really depends whether its ddr2 800 or 1200. If you have 800, and your motherboard is compatible with 1200, go for the 2 gigs of 1200 , it will be faster than having 4 gigs of 800
