:( now i pheel outdated
but my mac is still my baby
check it: apple.com (http://apple.com)
-
i don't like that they changed the keyboard on the pro
-
umm..no they didnt...
-
they havent
unless i've missed something.
Better Graphics card and Multi Touch are the best points.
-
yeah thats about it though..still feel outdated... :(
-
i guess i was wrong. i thought that they put the mac book keyboard on the pro.
-
they also put better proccessors in and led backlights as well as bigger hdd's
Well, the rumors were right on target -- new MacBook and MacBook Pros are finally here! Unlike the very minor updates in November, this refresh features across the board speed bumps, bigger hard drives, more stock RAM and for the MacBook Pro, a few new features sure to make every Apple fan's mouth water. Both lines are now featuring the new Penryn Core 2 Duo chipset, with the higher end MacBook Pro models taking advantage of a spectacular 6MB of L2 cache.
MacBook
The price configuration is the same same (starting at $1099 US for the non-Super Drive white base model, $1499 for the BlackBook), but the base features have received a nice upgrade. The significant changes:
Processor speeds now start at 2.1 GHz for the base model, 2.4 GHz for the $1299 and $1499 models
120 GB drive is standard for the base level MacBook, 160 GB for the $1299 MacBook and a whopping 250 GB drive for the BlackBook. All drives are 5400 RPM
2 GB RAM standard for all but entry-level MacBooks (that remains at 1 GB)
MacBook Pro
Processor speeds now start at 2.4 GHz, and are available up to 2.6 GHz (2.5 GHz is standard for the 17"); the new 2.5 GHz chip has 6 MB of L2 cache
The MBP 17" now has an LED backlit screen option
200 GB is the starting HD size (this is up from 120 GB in the last revision), 250 GB standard for the upper 15" and 17" models. A 300 GB drive is available BTO, as is a 7200 rpm 200 GB drive
NVidia 8600GT now starts at 256 MB of VRAM -- 512 for the higher end 15" and stock 17"
Multi-touch trackpad a la the Air.
All in all, some very nice updates -- particularly for the MacBook. The basic specs for the BlackBook and entry-level MacBook Pro are so similar, I have to think the MacBook is the better deal for anyone who doesn't need the dedicated graphics card.

To bad it wasn't a PC or you could have upgraded it yourself... cmon, you know I have yeah there... :w00t: :victory:
-
what kind of upgrades could i do for my hypothetical pc laptop?
still love my lappie though...he's still a pro
-
Very few to any laptop...
-
Well other than Over-clocking and Ram refills not much on a laptop, I was referring to desktops because they are where anything of actual value lies. 75-80 percent of the people who have laptops use them like desktop PC's more than often...
I made myself sad, now I want a better PC, stupid college...

i'll be doing that soon anyway :P

Please tell me you are doing it yourself and not paying 500 bucks for them to do it :winker:
-
They looks pretty I love the apple designs ^^ and the performance upgrades are nice to
but Reaper. I've taken desktops apart and upgraded ram, Disk drives, HDD etc is there much more to building your own desktop form scratch? I know it's FAR mroe cost effective so I think im going to look into it any tips? =D

I'm hurt you think I'm that stupid :(
Plus its $500 for them to add it to a new model, 4 gigs alone is $1000, srsly
its on the apple site
I took out mine yesterday to get a feel for it, rly easy
I'm gona get 4 gigs for $109 online off newegg

I put some more ram in my laptop, suprisingly, its actually easier to put in a laptop and much much quicker, well atleast with my laptop (HP Compaq 3720s)
i upgraded from 1gb to 2gb, ther was 1 empty slot.

yeah good thing about upgrading ram too is that apple has it approved for user replacability
and its super duper easy, like i said before tried it last night..super duper easy

So in theory you jsut get a basic macbook and by upgrades from a third party seller. install them yourself and you have a top of line model at a much lower cost ?
-
if something fails because of the ram, you pick up the bill

umm..the only upgrade is RAM :/ i got a top of the line (Well, for the time i got it at least), and you can't really change that stuff (though i wish i could upgrade my vram to 512 mb like in the new ones :( )
so yeah, 2 gigs standard, but if you want 4 gigs factory then its an additional either 4 or 500$ dollars...for new ram alltogether for it you can check out the memory upgrades apple offers for user (or apple store) install...but 4 gigs for mine is literally $1000
im getting apple type 4gigs of ram for 109$
if something fails because of the ram, you pick up the bill
im not sure what could fail because of it, but the reviews and reccommendations for the kind i have selected are good, the only negative comment was because the guy bought the wrong kind so it seems to work
and besides, really any 3rd party (you) damage leaves you with the bill, apple care dosn't do much for stuff like that (drops, liquid spills, unapproved hardware upgrades)
for the mostpart the controlled apple experiance is good..except when they make you pay way to much :censored:ing money for somthing so simple that, in truth, would either be covered or cost less with a pc laptop
but hey, i still loves mine
and as for my english teacher who is a mac kinda guy, he's keeping it on the dl, but he sold his old mbp and got one of the new ones :P (it has been 2 years with teh old one, and in 2 years when i get ready to go to college ima sell mine and get a new one, becaue they still retain value quite well and the ram upgrade is a plus :D )
-
I'll upgrade mine as soon as i notice slowdown, same with my desktop ^^
-
i think i am actually experiancing a slowdown...though i think im just paranoid because of the new ones...
wait..you have one matt? or did you at least get yours yet?
-
wow, now I want a macbook pro even more!!!
-
wow, now I want a macbook pro even more!!!
yup yup
and i just re-fell in [digital] love with mine agian
i got the room pitch black except for my 2002 fujitsu lifebook, my macbook pro, and my dell 19 inch external monitor hooked up to my macbok pro all w/ same background, wireless mouse, sound system w/ kickass subwoofer plugged in, and of course, my external hard drives....oh and the backlit keyboard
drop dead shmexy
can't wait to improve it w/ my ram :D
XD i feel like a notorious hacker with insomnia even though i have to go to bed in an hour and im watching south park with a frosty cold barq's rootbeer and my last dose of terbenafine (perscription, thank you very much)
-

I'm building a quadcore with 4 gigs of ram and an 8800 GTX for less than a grand...
according to that thats the equivalent of getting 4 gigs added to the MBP from apple
I could build 2-3 of these PC's for the price of an equivalent alienware...
I'm hurt you think I'm that stupid :(
I don't think you are stupid, I think its funny how people agree to get ripped off...
imagining a normal person paying 500 bucks for more ram in a computer makes me feel like we should have mandatory classes on how to spend money wisely. Mostly just my rant about how I hate apple's %50 profit. It's like buying a pencil for 5 bucks because they claim the tip won't break as often, and when it does it costs another dollar to sharpen it...
I think I'm going way off topic here... lol

i was actually kidding... but yeah, the thing i find that is stupid is paying 500 factory installed or 1000 new (non factory)
but hey, the other day i was picking up my comp from repairs and my orthodontist was buying his son a brand new 17 inch top of teh line mbp with about an extra 500$ worth of accessories and another 500 for ram which they put in right there....so i guess you dont care if you're rich as hell to pay for somthing so simple...i mean like private jet kinda rich...

I build a comp for a man who owns like 15 gas stations, he makes more than a million dollars a year sitting on his ass all day. It was the best build I ever did and I only regret not taking pics...
and still, I think people buy the mac because of the name
"Oh you got a Mac, cool" kind of thing. One of my friends who can barely afford college bought one and regrets it immensely considering it runs about as well as his desktop which I built for him for like 400 bucks LOL
-
this is the problem with 2 differen companies, people like either one or the other and fights break out. I can even talk about macs to my friends at school cause they allways find a way to shoot them down...
-
yeh i dont like people who fight and fight about the 2 ones there basically the same but with different prices - i like both lol. on topic when i get to uni i think im going to upgrade to a nice new 17" top MBP cos this one is starting to look tired in comparison, i think i will give it to someone maybe a friend or family member and if they want to give me money then all the better
