You could also wait for Mario Kart when it comes on the wii :D, as well as F-zero.

After playing Brawl and Melee, I have to honestly say that I enjoyed Melee better
Mostly because my biggest gripe is with the equalization in character movement.  The fastest characters are barely better than the slowest ones.
Maybe it's because Melee had a bigger WOW facter involved.

My advice, if you are looking for a cheap game, get melee.  If you want upgrades and online then get Brawl...

i havent played brawl yet but it looks fun
twilight princess is good and u get ur money out of it too
i have been lookin at the medal of honor game and the scarface, i think theyll be pretty good
but so far my fav is proly wii sports but that comes with it :P
i just thought of another.. GH3
