Title: Progressive
Post by: Ilzwalrus on April 08, 2008, 09:40:21 AM
The progressive genre is interesting and it's what I've probably been obsessed with most, after Alice in Chains (why did Staley have to die :(). It's generally played in uncommon time signatures and varies in style greatly. Quite often, bands incorporate a concept into their albums. These artists are greatly influenced by Pink Floyd, but sometimes you have to listen hard to hear it.
Bands I recommend you guys check out:

-Dream Theater

-Mostly Autumn

-Porcupine Tree

-Pain of Salvation

-Tool (I'm sure TimmyDX has forced this upon you already :D)

-Ayreon

-Liquid Tension Experiment (Dream Theater without the vocalist)

Some of the music is extremely technical and complex and I think that shows great musicmanship.
