ok i'm going to buy a new PC
i'm going to earn alot of money this summer and the computer i have now is kinda old
120gig HD
geforce4 4600 Ti
i want a good gaming pc so i thought a 8800gt would be good
but i don't have so much knowledge about motherboard etc.
so i'd like some help :P
i plan on keeping as much as possible from my old pc like the dvd/cd drive
and for the beginning the HD (i'll get a better one later)
this is what i want
a new motherboard (i've got no clue on how much they are)
a new video card (8800 gt??? or are there better ones?)
a new case (a cool gaming case, will probably mod it myself too)
and i'll probably need a new power supply
what i plan to keep is
the HD
the dvd/cd drive
so it would be nice if someone made me a list of what i need etc. and how much it would cost (i will buy the parts in germany since they are much cheaper there and i live like 15km from germany)
-
new motherboard (ive had very good experiences with Asus) ram and processor that match your motherboard.
when it comes to processors people have there favorites, i can only speak to AMD cause i have yet to get my hands on a Intel. but a duel core should do nicely for you (just make sure your processor matches your socket type on your mother board)
as for video cards, people will tell you to get the 9800 cause there the new one, but the 8800's are better than them, because they have faster bus speeds.
as for power supplies something around 650W would be good. modular would help with wire management, but there is a slight power loss.
if this is your first build you might look in to getting a bare bones kit. (comes with case mobo processor and other stuff depending on the kit)
depending on how much you want to spend you could be looking at any thing from $600 to $2000
if you have any questions, or want us to double check something for you just go ahead and ask
-
ok i think i will have around 700 or 800 dollar at the end of my vacation
i just got a job at a local supermarket and i'm going to deliver the paper (in the early morning) for 2 weeks
i'll only need to stop buying mod parts etc. xD
thanx for your help
and i will certainly post in this topic again when i have the money etc,
-
first of all srry for double post :P xD
now further with my post
yesterday i was looking at the alienware shop and i noticed they had a pretty good alienware PC for 999 dollar which is pretty cheap because i'm in europe (you know the euro-dollar thing :P)
so i thought why not buy that, so i started looking what it had, everything was pretty good etc. i don't need a new screen since i can use the one that i'm using now and get a better one later
but then i found out that alienware doesnt ship to europe and shipping costs 300 dollar or more !!!! :fear: :faint:
is there any way of getting it to europe without paying that much for shipping? or can i get it in europe ?
-
dude don't get a alienware. for the same price you can build your own that will beat the :censored: out of it.
but if you have your hart set on it you could have one of your friends over in the US order it and send it to you for cheaper than there price. but good international shipping is gonna cost A LOT.

hmm i just found a official store in the uk for alienware and the total cost would be € 884,53 which i think is way to much
i really love their cases.
anyway if you can collect some parts for a total of 600 or 700 euro's (without keyboard, mouse, sound system, screen) that would be awesome :)
and if the mobo you get has an IDE socket then i won't need an HD (because i can use my old one untill i have enough money to get a sata one)
-
I wouldn't go the way of Alienware, to put it promptly, there premade peices of :censored:. I would work out what parts to buy and build it your self. This will save you money and will leave you with a better computer. There might even be enough money to buy a new PC case if you really want a cool case

then why dont you suggest some parts in his price range like he asked

im double posting for a good reason
Moather Board (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131011)
Processor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103773)
Ram (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211166)
Graphics Card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082)
grand total $555.97 usd = 361.418449 Euros
im running almost the same set up and its more than i could ask for and for my first build its a very nice set up. grate beginner set up.
i did how ever leave out a OS, a HDD, a disk drive, a case, a mouse, a monitor and a power supply. some of those you could pull from your old system others you may want to buy new.
(all of the above parts are in no way "the best" or "most incredible" but they have proven to me to be powerful and stable system. and have influenced my opinion as to parts selected)
-
if you had like twice the money, i would suggest a MAC PRO!!!
8 Cores of POWER
-

More like if you have 4 times the money, it costs 500 dollars alone to boost from 2gb to 4 gbs of ram...
Thats a server, not a computer, I mean my quadcore has had crysis running in the background, listening to music, MSN messenger, uTorrent and Photoshop on at the same time and still had more than 50 percent of every core on standby

dont buy an alienware, they are good but they are expesive.
buy a xxodd, i am going to buy one to.

LMAO at this one, only an 8500gt? Thats like onboard graphics...
-
a Mac Pro is a professional PC, for things like HD Movie and Heavy Photo Editing etc. Music creation.
That said, i do WANT one, i mean its soo cool!

i second that

i believe he wants a PC, like it said in the title.
that being said, a mac lap top can not compete with a PC (you all know im not a mac basher and that i even want one)
so lets get to helping him build a nice PC in his price range

Then why would you suggest it in a thread for someone who specifically stated in the original post
i want a good gaming pc

blahahaha....yeh it sucks.....but look at the laptop link.
PWNED....
no dont reply with some excuse your pwned
Intel Core2 Quad Q6700 (2,66GHz, 1066Mhz FSB, 2x4Mb cache)
4GB DDR2 800MHz geheugen (2x 2GB dual channel)
3x 200Gb 7200RPM Serial-ATA
Blu-ray ROM / DVD-CD +/- brander incl. PowerDVD Ultra
300mb/ps WLAN
2x nVidia GeForce 8800m GTX 512MB GDDRIII
that's what i call a laptop! and dont argue about the price cause it's good!
-
guys knock off the lap top banter as far as we know (based on what hes said) he wants a PC. theres plenty of threads dedicated to arguing about mac's and other laptops
-
technically a pc is more general usage, a PC (personal computer) is a computer designed for use by one person at a time.

other than the blu-ray drive (which I wouldn't use) my PC is better in all aspects...
besides that laptop probably weighs the same as my desktop, and if the heat levels are the same then it's a crotch fire waiting to happen... :dribble:
-
wow thanks tec that is what i'm talking about
looks like that is a good mobo for me
still has IDE connector on it so i can use my old HD and disc drive untill i get a better one
(will probably get a better one because i think i'll have enough money)
about the processor, how do i place that :S i've got no clue because i just start learning stuff from the pc
do i just place it on the mobo where the picture say i should ?
the processor looks pretty good too 3.0Ghz and it's AMD (which i hear from alot of people that AMD is good)
don't u think that 4gig DDR2 is a little bit to much? a friend told me i should have enough with 2gig ddr2
the video card was exactly what i wanted
i still need a power supply though. which i think i need a new one because the vid card and the mobo will drain alot of power (don't want to have alot of BSOD's while i'm playing game's on high quality :P because of my mobo/vid card don't get what they need
how many wattage should i need?
here is my computer as what it is now (i took the text out of everest home)
i did remove some stuff which you don't need to see :P

no problem bro.
seating the processor is very easy its keyed just like any other connection in your computer so unless you force it, it will only go in one way. you just have to lift the little arm on the ZIF (zero insertion force) socket drop the processor in and close the arm locking it in place. then all you have to do is connect the heat sync and fan.
you can go with 2 gigs of ram if you want but 4 gigs will make your rig fly. you can run a game, down load something, have a chat window up, and play music with out breaking a sweat.
as for a power supply its gonna depend on if your gonna continue to build more computes and you want to use the same PSU in all of them or if you want to put it in this computer and keep it there. if your gonna move it form rig to rig i would go with a 1000W one and you will never need another. if you just going to keep it in this computer a 650W would work fine. but there is another thing to consider. will your case have a window? if it dose and you want it to look spotless and you don't want a lot of wires hanging around a modular PSU will be worth your money. it allows you to add and subtract power cables as needed.
hope this helps for now let me know if ya need any thing else.
-
well i do want to get a window in it
how much would a modular 1000W then be? and who makes the best PSU?
or will i be able to just put the wires from a normal psu together in some bigger wire thing (which u put around the wires itself) (i'll draw something so you will understand better)

read on the site dude...its pretty leight...
and i know your pc is better than the laptop (it allways is according to you)
DD, try mycom or maybe conrad
-
most wires come sleeved now. but a modular PSU allows you to take out the wires your not using.
mine is not a modular supply its a 650W antec that i made a custom clear cover for
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi177.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw240%2Ftec_in_the_making%2FP3010082.jpg&hash=82e851b7ace26eb0438a0a4a4303df41f57c6095)
Thermaltake (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153054) makes a nice power supply as dose Silver Stone but a 1000W is gong to cost a lot.
-
ok so this is what i got so far
Mother Board (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131011)

Power Supply (http://www.mycom.nl/Products/View/Cooler_Master_Real_Power%2c_700W/155571.aspx)
Case (only want the neon to be green, don't know if that is possible though (http://www.muizenshop.nl/0/549/1/457/2/504/p/apevia-x-discovery-black/7191/)
and if i still have enough money i'll need a new HD and Disc Drive(still not 100% sure if i can keep both both are IDE)
-
your link to the PSU isn't working.
but as for the disk drive and the HD you can run two IDE devices off of one port
as for the case if they don't sell it in the color you want theres all ways the option of painting it your self.
-
Why not buy Intel?

fixed the link
and psp339 tell me why that mobo and cpu is better then?
and maybe why not :P
i'm still nog 100% sure of the case, might be a little bit of overkill :P
-
That Gigabyte motherboard is a budget P35 chipset motherboard that is good for overclocking. The Q6600 CPU would be a lot faster than the Athlon 64 X2 after you overclock it a little. The CPU heatsink you should get is this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835109140 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835109140)

The Intel Core 2 ******'s are posting higher performance and less energy use than the AMD counterparts

Also, the Q6600 is SUPER easy to over clock (got mine from 2.4 to 3.6)
-
i think processors are a matter of personal opinion. every one has their favorites iv never worked with a Intel so i cant comment on them.
but my opinion on over clocking is in most cases i would rather spend the extra $20 for the extra gig than stress the processor by over clocking it. granted it can be cheaper but i don't care to do it.
-
well i don't think i'll be overclocking it :P
unless i learn it at school (going to highschool next year, learning about computers e.d it's called ICT here don't know how it is called in english)
-
ICT is all about using programs like microsoft office, and dreamweaver, not PC Hardware ¬.¬

wrong ;)
i'll be learning how to start a hardware shop too etc. and i'll be learning how everything works

Overclocking now a days is incredibly easy, just a few clicks on a keyboard...

but why over stress your processor and risk a burn out when for $20 to $40 more you can get the same affect. but thats just me. there are plenty of people who do OC and with some rather incredible results.

It's not 20-30 bucks to do what I did
My processor is running @ 3.6 Ghz
Stock it runs @ 2.4 and costs 214 bucks (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017)
To get it halfway to where mine sits now it costs 1029 bucks (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115034)

your running 600 megahertz faster than me and i only payed $143.00
like i said i just don't care to put the extra stress on my chip and risk burning it out

im not trying to argue, just trying to get the point that for the money the chip does perform a lot better an almost every benchmark. Lately AMD hasn't been keeping up with Intel on their dual and quadcores

well stick to helping out dutch then. he said he wasn't going to OC his

I am, that chart shows stock speeds
besides all this talk of whats better is really kind of pointless, most of the hardware out there performs well regardless of name brands. If you really want help then look for the brands to NOT get, because the high end gear works about the same as the middle range unless you plan on pushing more power out of it. (overclock)

uhh, if you're deciding on a processor personally get a cheap but good processor now, and wait for the nehalem, they're supposed to have a big performance jump from the current 45nm processors. But if you don't want to wait a Q6600 is good especially for overclocking. Also a core two quad Q9300 is a good processor as well, it also overclocks quite nicely from what I have heard.

as you can see some stuff is twice! that's because we made a pc several times so we had different good parts we could choose from.
so from the stuff that is twice,.. i'll only need 1
