Title: [WIP] Full PSP Case mod
Post by: gybrus on May 06, 2008, 02:02:20 PM
Hello,
Been following the forum a while now and now is the time that I start my own project.

Project information
The idea is to create a whole new psp case and of course add some hardware mods.
At the moment I only got some rough sketches based on a fake psp image.
I like the idea allot so thats why I chose to create a case based on that design.

Reference:
Dual Memory Stick mod (https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=15459.0)
The fake:

General ideas
*Making room for 2 MS Duo ports
*Increasing battery life.
*Make the screen slide able
*Adding a port for a ps1 or ps2 controller.
*A whole new case

Concept

Basic placement of items.

Sorry for my bad English,

My first step is designing a case that in theory will work.
After that I will try to find somebody that can help me making it in real life.
I think it could work... with a little help.

I'm sure who could make the custom case but making 3D model or obtaining one of the same size and shape that you need will help considerably because there are people that can CNC it into an actual case but price wise I'm not sure how much it will cost.

The price will be a problem I guess.
Making a 3D model isn't that hard for me, and I already found a company that designs and manufactures different devices.
And of course custom designs :)

The only thing left is trying to get an original PSP fat inside such a case.

EDIT: Just got another cool idea.
making a port for a ps1 or ps2 controller and use that as controller that way the screen will stay closed wile playing :7

Measure the PSP internals, how far the cables extend ect , and rearrange them on a table to the way you want it to be inside the case and measure it up. You should buy a replacement Memory stick Pro Duo slot from Dealextreme there only $3 or so if you want dual MS Slots. I would also look in to the Parallel Memory stick mod to have two memory stick slots hooked up.

Thats the mod where I got the idea from :P

I'm 99% sure I need to rewire allot.
The headphone plug/Remote plug will be removed from the MS/Wifi board and placed on the other side of the case.
The motherboard will be somewhere on the bottom above the umd drive, and the directional buttons board/power board? etc. beneath the buttons.
I'll post a rough sketch of it later this day I guess.

Going to buy a PS1 or PS2 controller first.

Sounds good, Yeah you will need to rewire a whole lot to get this done. You might to need to buy a few PSP's for this mod as I you might wreak your Mobo and other parts

Good luck, one problem you will face is the size of the mobo, you will have to cut it down a bit in order to get it to fit, when Sony developed the PSP they had the ability to develop both the internals and the externals at the same time, you don't have that advantage, and will have to make exceptions...

I see you mentioned a phat, I would start with the internals of a slim, for the ram upgrades and the space savings alone

Now you mention that, that is indeed a small problem but I already got a solution :P
When I turn the mobo 30% it could fit perfectly.
Contacts are turned as well then but i need to rewire them anyway so :7
Turning the mobo is the solution for that problem :)

I don't have a slim and I'm not going to buy one :P

They are smaller thats true, but I don't have a slim and I'm not buying one...
And the size of the parts is no problem though :7

This mod needs a lot of time and effort, the only thing i would recommend is go with a slim. the internals are not only small but if you do end up with a half decent job then it wont way as much as the phat.
