Hey Guys I'm new to the Site. My Slim PSP Umd Drive went out is this a Common problem with the unite. I Took great care of the psp and never dropped the unite. I have Kenshin working on it since I've know him for Years and he thinks that its the UMD drive and also could be the motherboard. Just wants some General Input from you guys since Kenshin talk's about the site all of the time. and if the UMD drive and motherboard did go bad where do I buy replacement parts?

What exactly is the problem, it just doesn't recognize umds or does it give you an error?

i can try to help you. i had this problem with my phats umd drive. i cant take pictures cause my camara broke. on your umd drive look for the laser. once you find it look to the bottom of it for a screw. tighten that screw as much as you can, but be careful to not strip it. hopefully that helps.

When I insert a UMD it won't read any UMD and the Laser won't Move and the Laser won't Turn on. and If I have a UMD in the Drive and turn on the PSP the PSP won't Load to the main Menu. I have KenshinFFX working on it and just need to know where to buy parts?

This one seems to be some sort of a known issue. I have three of my friends that have this same exact problem... It's like the UMD drive just goes bad or something..

did you try what i said? if you did and that didnt work then make sure all the cables are in. if still doesnt work then it sounds like its your mobo. sorry man

KenshinFFx has the PSP with the Problem I have not Been over to check out the see if its the screw

That's on a phat, It's not on a slim. The laser would still turn on.

so you are saying that the laser wont turn on at all? if it wont then check the ribbon cable, if its a bad cable then ill think about selling mine to him

doesn't the psp slim have a UMD door detector(correct me if i'm wrong), so when a umd is placed in the drive it turns on the laser. you might want to check that now to see if thats working.

yes you are correct, the one to the top left of the umd bay. there was a post a couple weeks back on fixing it. just hope that is the problem and its not more severe.
