Title: USB HOST/MASS STORAGE PROJECT STATUS 07/16/08
Post by: gr8npwrfl on July 15, 2008, 11:15:40 PM
Hello,

Was gone all day so not much progress today.

I have found the problem in the nethostfs has to do with endianess.

For those of you that don't know what this is, it is the way a computer stores numbers
Big to small (Big Endian) Small to big (Little Endian)

So if I store a number like 01DA5802 in memory on a little endian it would be 01DA5802
but on a big endian it would be 0258DA01 a totally different number

So I have to add a bunch of code that figures out which computer it is on and switches it automatically.

That is the status today.

Have a great day.

I have the wireless nethostfs running in a single directory with no problems.

Still have some minor bugs when changing directories.

The linux development is being done on the NSLU2 editing, compiling, and linking.

If someone wants to know how to set up the programming environment on the NSLU2 let me know
and I will do a quick tutorial on that to.

Thats the status for today.

Have a great day.

But in short, PSP is a usb slave so it cant run usb devices they tell the PSP what to do with them. Like the camera and GPS unit do.

So the project aims to make a compact affordable usb master device which you plug into the PSP and use software so the PSP can run them. Right now all of this is already possible but you have to use a PC as the master. This project is using a NSLU2 network device to act as the master so it doesnt require a PC. This will be replaced by a smaller piece of hardware in about 3 month which will be alot more mobile.
