Okay First off this post was baried earlier on so It needed a bump. I know no double post but I need this post to be seen.
I went to FRY'S today and Bought the following for my rig.
I got a Q6600 processor
Some cr :censored: little motherboard that came with it for free.
2 gb of Crucial ballistix ram
A 520 watt Crucial Moddular Power Supply.
a 500 gb maxtor hd
and a hyper tx2 cooling fan
I already have a case but i need a good motherboard and a gaming graphics card.
I like the 4850 but am not sure about it. Ideas?
What motherboard would be best for the setup i bought.
I need it to be overclockable and stable for gaming.
I would like to only spend $300 more for the graphics and video card.
-
Go for the 4850 it's a great card. Lose the 2x 9800 GTX there is no reason to get 2 of those cards.
-
okay. yea i made that first list up before the 4850 and 4870 came out. What do you think of the MSI P45 Platinum for a motherboard?
-
You need a bigger PSU or that thing may not even run. Those bigger, better cards need at LEAST 500-600watt PSUs, and count in everything else (The Q6600's 90watt consumption, etc.) and you should at least get ~800watt.

but I already bought the powersupply :cry2:
And i just did this and it says there 450 watt powersuply would be enough,

And I did another test and got this:eXtreme PSU Calculator v2.5

Ohhhkkaaayy. Just saying. I know with nVidia one's you have to have higher or it probably won't even start up.

you may be right. But I already have the power supply and I did that test to where i had everything overclocked and i included 2 sata hard drives 2 sata dvd writers and watercooling a 4850 and a card reader and it only took 429 watts. And plus I have a higher quality power supply which will actually supply what it is rated at. the off brand ones peak at what they are rated at and then the blow up corsair ones are actually rated about 50 watts higher than what they say they are rated at so that you know it will run what you want it to.
Okay. SO tonight I ordered my motherboard. I got a p5n-d.
And my dad got me a 3870 so I will be using that for now i guess. ( Hey it will run crysis and any other game i want for now) I may do crossfire later but for now I think I have everything! http://www.xoxide.com/red-cold-cathode.html]Oh wait I am going to get these too[url]http://www.xoxide.com/red-cold-cathode.html (http://Oh wait I am going to get these too[url)

You can't crossfire on that 750i motherboard...
-
yea. I noticed that. The board came and it did not work
so i took my dads old 680i that needed the firmware flashed and I flashed it and now the rig is built and running :hifive:
Pictures and possibly video coming soon of my nerd space. :w00t:
-
Would still have gone for atleast 500w, maybe 750w.
-
lol. well i have a 520 watt power supply by corsair in it. I think it will be okay.
-
okay so. I dont have a desktop for 2-3 weeks now. My motherboard fried on me. :cry2:
I am sending it back to xfx and getting a new one. This sucks. Well, hopefully they discontinue my board and are forced to upgrade me for my trouble lol. Okay well i can dream.
Peace out. I will let you guys know when i get it working again and I will get pics for you guys then.
