Title: 555 Timer from Radioshack
Post by: Hoopdy on July 29, 2008, 08:11:43 PM
Can a regular 555 timer from radioshack be programmed so I only need to use the materials in this pic?  click me (http://www.consolecustoms.net/auction/controllers/new_8pin_parts.jpg)

If so, how do I program it?

Thanks!

I'm going to buy the parts now at a local shop. Would he have a pic12f683?

And after I connect the microcontroller to the 9 pin on my mobo will it automatically detect it so I can then write the code to it from a program?

Thanks!

You won't find a PIC like that at a local shop. Then you need a PIC programmer and you need to program it with the HEX code THEN you can wire it. If you don't get a programmaer and program it, wiring it will do nothing.

So the local shop did have the chip....Could I hook it up to my PC using this (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=656753&st=15) wiring diagram and then program it with the HEX code?

Thanks!

What I linked to was a programmer you can build. It connects to the 9 pin on your motherboard. So that should work fine for programming it right and thats all I need? Place chip in programmer, program HEX, wire into controller and rapid fire away?

Yeah, it linked to that one. I found a little wiring diagram to build your own though so I'm going to try that.
