would it be possible? to have switch betweent the fitted flash, and a salvaged one? so you could run 2 FWs by turning off and flicking a switch?
-
i am not really sure but i don't think there is enough room in the psp ram to have to OS running.
You could use time machine and run FW's off your stick

LOL They wouldn't be on at the same time.
Proper, it's not possible. The flash0 is devoted to system files to make the psp run and do what it does. The flash1 is devoted to other things, and there's not enough space on it to even hold everything that's in flash0. And then even if you did get everything in flash1, you would need 2 others, flash2 and flash3, to hold what was in flash1, but now 1 for each firmware.
You could use...well...that one psp mchip, but it's illegal and a :censored: to solder I've heard.
-
It really isnt too hard if you use a good iron and a microscope.
Anyway onto his question, well you can do this by using an external psp nand flash. Take a look at this, inlcuding the linked forum threads, it really doesnt look too hard, and you could be up and running within an hour if you order the parts, or alread happen to have this product.

good luck, and make sure you have a steady hand and lots of magnet wrap for the soldering.
Woah. Nice find, that could come in handy for some people!

thanks kicks and alien, i know this idea is hard, but itd be like having 2 PSPs in one. flick a switch and turn off the original NANDs, then another to activate the second ones. switch from 4.01 M33 to 3.71 M33 in a snap.
Kicks is right though, i dont think it would work even if it went all right. I dont think the PSP would like a new NAND. it'd probably reject it and not boot. also the pheasibilty of it being internal is stupid.
it was a good idea, but nahh.
:P
-
No, that's a whole flash NAND. You've got everything there that's on the psp. I'm fairly sure the psp flash is partitioned (well, same concept) into the Flash0 and flash1. Take out your UMD drive and stick that board in there and solder everything, put a switch (I think, maybe you'll need more than one lol) and you've got it. There shouldn't be any problems with booting, you'll need to use something like pandora to flash a FW onto the NAND though, because it's blank.
-
wow, i didnt think of that, partitions! lol
i never use the UMD drive :P watch this space, ill try to get a PSP ripe for the modding.
Id need to figure out how to put in a switch to turn the 1st NAND off, and the second one on.
Would it just be a matter of disconnecting the ground to the NAND?
-
and what about the first official modchip for the psp
The Undiluted Platinum
which allows you to use 2 firmwares, by just pressing the L button at boot you will boot the modchip, and pressing nothing you will boot the psp itself.
-
but we'd never use that as it's illegal.
illegal is bad. :P
ill look it up tho, muhahaha
-
That's what I mentioned in my first post :taunt:
-
i think it is possible to do that on a slim because it has extra space.... and there are two possible ways to do it. one is grabbing a PSAR and manually flashing/pasting it into flashes(not recommended at all) and second is modifying an updater to flash the modules in other flash instead of flash0 and for both ways you will have to grab the booster's ipl sdk and make a custom ipl with a code for the two ipls(of the two firmwares) then flash that ipl.. and rename and relocate the other fw ipls(so that the psp doesnt boot the fw directly)
-
Did anyone here say this was for the slim? Isn't there a reason it's in phat, not slim?
:taunt:
That's too much work Bhawan. A quick $20 and some wire and you've got your 2nd flash, just needs to be flashed. You can use I think pandora for that. Problem solved.

why exactly are modchips illegal?
this seems to be the same sort of thing to me, all the mod chip does is catch the data that is supposed to be accessed from the flash first and so if you press the button it boots from the modchip, if you dont it just bypasses the chip and uses the psp's propper nand chip.
if you hooked this up right you could have any version of psp firmware on your psp and it really wouldnt matter, even official firmware, just flick the switch to be in the custom chip with a custom firmware if you wanted.
if you felt like a challenge you could probably fit 2 extra chips in there with a three way switch.

You're friggin' joking, right? My god.

no, i cant understand why they would be unless they come with a firmware on them which would be distribution of the files, could you please enlighten me, i havent ever needed or wanted to research about them before.
-
Well for one, it's against the rules to talk about them on AcidMods, so no I will not explain why they're illegal :taunt:
-
if i ever get the patience to do this, its going to be a long and arduous process indeed xD

i guess ill leave it at that then, but having a second switchable flash in your psp sounds like a great idea.
-
ok ohh well i guess the way i mentioned before is now possible  how?? mmm DC7 just got released and it has a feature to make custom sizes of flashes on psp so you can do it my way if you are a software guy but if you are better with hardware go for the second nand.....

i know about time machine and i have it myself but i just think it would be useful to have a physical extra flash aswell
