Title: PiKey problem found
Post by: gr8npwrfl on August 24, 2008, 05:10:35 PM
I have found the problem that shuts down the serial port in Pikey
and will be releasing a patch for it in the next couple of days

That is great. I have never used pikey, but it seems that the psp (in the xmb) make attempts to comunicate to whatever you connect to the port, if no response it shuts down the power (after three attempts) at the serial port, am i right?
I don't know if pikey uses de debug driver (debugsio) or not, but if so this driver seems to need the headphones connected (as well as something connected to the serial) in order to power the serial port. So you are making a patch that takes full control of the serial port power? Will you release the source?
I think i saw some interesting calls related with this matter in the sdk, but not sure and neither i remember them. Could you post what functions are you calling (I'm assuming you are not working calling to hex codes).
Thanks and congs gr8.

In a different forum discussion they said that the serial gps had self-powering, though i don't know if there is a newer version than the one they were talking about that is powered from the psp. In any case the serial port driver is powerful enough for powering a gps? Correct me if i am wrong but for common transfers you don't need the 2.5 volts to be active.

Yes they do, and that is what the patch for pikey does, it keeps
the power on and the port active.

You can power your external system from the 2.5 volts
