Since it is allowed to talk about modchips
i wanted to show you guys this,.. this is my first modchip install on a wii, and the 1st time opening the wii ;)
this is the wasabi v2 modchip
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi10.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa133%2FRobleufkens%2FDSC00221.jpg&hash=c20481f9eb7281913a0ed312977f4a530b6aff2d)
and here are the points where you need to solder it to ;)
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi10.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa133%2FRobleufkens%2FDSC00383.jpg&hash=edb777c546512378972694d801e53a7e9931e97a)
i needed the red points too because my drive was a d2c2 ;) and not a d2c
Time to start soldering ;)
first of all solder the wires to the chip with the correct length
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi10.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa133%2FRobleufkens%2FDSC00379.jpg&hash=371b99a50cafce23f56045c8faccbf4dd139f080)
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi10.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa133%2FRobleufkens%2FDSC00380.jpg&hash=19d01ef6e2249d50def4d00bab7b0e10d50c9375)
you can see the chip here laying on the drive with all the wires ;)
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi10.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa133%2FRobleufkens%2FDSC00382.jpg&hash=43ecd33fb621b0d0029946509a14a81e4e8222ca)
and here it is ;) connected etc..
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi10.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa133%2FRobleufkens%2FDSC00384.jpg&hash=a156b578b5e1541a869a9af7c0953357f4e3015a)
and you can see here that it now plays my backup from wii play (original disc was scratched)

i'm hoping to buy/get the gamecube from my brother (he owns the wii, and i isntalled the chip for him) so i can mod it all the way! :P
-
Were allowed to talk about them now? Since when did that go into effect?
Anyways nice install, pretty good job for your first time.
-
we've all ways been able to talk about them, not just where to get the backups...
-
check the anouncment s board first before you ask as every member should of got a pm or email about it
-
we've all ways been able to talk about them, not just where to get the backups...
No. Wrong all the way. It's only been recently, within like the past 2 days, that we've been allowed to talk about them.
DD that's pretty cool. I thought the D2C drives had pins cut from that chip? I've been out of the scene for a long time now though haha
-
it has always been that way just that it hadnt been made clear to all staff mebers including some f the admins hence why we had that chat about it the othernite to firm up the ruling
-
no those are cut leg d2b ;)
xactly :P
and the drive was a D2C2 so i had to solder on the chip ;) or buy a stupid wii clip :P
and i like challenges so :censored: the wii clip :p
-
I've got a wiiikey sitting here from my old wii. Any chance it would still work if I soldered to the chip pins instead of the solder points (in case they changed around traces or something. I haven't opened my new wii up yet to check what I've got. Probably D2C or D2C2.)
-
just get the wasabi v2 ;)
if you bought the wii after may 2008 you are 90% sure of a d2c2 ;)
-
I got mine around april-ish. What might I have?
And, I'd rather not buy ANOTHER chip if I already have one. Would wiikey work somehow?
-
from what i know (not much) is that the wiikey was one of the 1st wii modchips
and that it was for the 1st types of drives
you are better of with a wasabi, because it is compatible with every drive, and easily updated through DVD ;)
-
Wiikey wasn't made just for the first drive. It can be used for others. And you can update it through the drive too. I'll check the wiikey site, maybe they've got something xD
edit*
Awwww crap! It can only be installed on D2B and earlier!
-
Wiikey was the first modchip for the Wii but it is only compatible with D2B chipsets, for D2C the only chips I have worked with are D2C Pro chips, but either way soldering to those IC legs is a pain.
-
you can;t buy a real one anywhere
I HAVE a real one...I've HAD a real one...
And I'm not paying like $60 for some modchip. I don't even paly wii much. lol.
