Title: *right* trigger not working with Sleeper Rapid Fire
Post by: pm666drummer on September 08, 2008, 08:05:00 PM
So i hooked everything up according to the diagrams on the forum for the sleeper matrix RF kit. I double-checked and triple checked all the connections and the solder is holding everything very well. However, the RF still won't work. any suggestions?

oh btw, i superglued the ground joint to make sure the battery contact wouldnt come off, but i dont think this would cause a problem. maybe i'm wrong.

UPDATE: here are a few pics

Left trigger is not how diagrams are drawn, that is a one trigger only mod, and most people put it on the right.  so if your right trigger does work, the mod is working.

If nothing works and you have a digital multi-meter, you can check your voltage, and make sure that when controller is on, that you have power across pins 1 and 8.(2-3V)

If you have power, then use your meter to check that sync is actually hooked up to chip by testing that pin (not sure what number) with positive prob and pin8 with negative  When not pressed it should have a voltage on it and when pressed should be around 0V

Remember to measure at chip as to make sure you solder joints are good.

If you dont have a meter snap a picture and post it, and can go from there.

I sent you a email about this and told you to call me and i help you over the phone ..
I'm busy and don't have time to do this with email or messaging
also all our chip's  get tested 2 times  before shipping ..so i don't think its the chip.
Now the only way you don't have Left Trigger is if you order the 3 wire chip that chip don't come with
left trigger option if you got the Dual rapid fire than your pin 3 is the switch for left trigger on/off
and pin 6 is the left trigger and this option works on games like Halo Not COD4.
If you could take picture or just call me that would be great and i'm glad to help.

don't have a multimeter so i cant test the Voltage.

also, i meant right trigger wasn't working, not left. left is right to me and right is left. even on the road.

ok to test your work put a switch on the chip insted of using sync ..
if the chip works with the switch than you know you wire it up right
and we move to the next step.

Or i save you time send me the controller and chip just pay shipping both ways  and $5.00 for my time
so it should be around 20.00. USPS - Priority Mail  7.50  flat rate shiping 2 - 3 days 15.00 + 5.00 my time

WOW, please tell me this is your first attempt at soldering.

First thing: Only strip your wires as much as neccessary, probably 1/8" is more than you need.
Second: I think your solder sux, looks like you are not using rosin core or flux, get some decent solder, you will be amazed.
Third: your black and yellow wires have a definate posiblity of shorting to any of the pads near them, redo and only strip enough to make connection.
Forth: Looks like your pins 1 and 2 are shorted together which could be why it wont work.
Fifth: You need to start over and remove all your solder from connections and chip, you will need some solder braid or a solder sucker.  If you use braid, flux will be your best friend to draw solder to the braid.

So, my recomendation is to send to mike, that is very generous offer, more generous than I would give.  Or, find someone who is skilled at soldering and has ability to remove that mess that is there, then get soldering lesson.  Dont be discouraged tho, everyone has to learn somewhere :winker:

yeah definitely my first attempt. at least with small parts, i have done car audio equipment and what not before though. the solder i was using is some of the radioshack solder.

so..... all in all, i will probably be sending it off to mike , so i dont spend countless hours and pieces of wire and solder trying to get it right.

Mike: what's your paypal and address (PM me) so i can send you the money and controller
