i tried doing this awhile back and found out, that you cant do it with newer AV cabled because they are missing the H-Sync and V-Sync Pins on the plug. I believe there are a few more missing. But after finding this out, i just hard wired it... (soldered it onto mobo) there is a tutorial somewhere on how to do it, but it also makes the 360 auto detect the VGA cable so you dont have to use a switch or keep things plugged in in order for the VGA output to work.

Yea well mine is the first xbox to come out so i do have the origianl cables but i decided to do a different that i found on youtube.
This one..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohN4D-nWBQI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohN4D-nWBQI)

Seems better but the only thing im using different is for the audio you kno the audio for the PC that is built in the one that is green well im gonna use that hopefuly it works or if i figure out the pins on cuz there five pins..i may but some pics up and doa video of this soldering everything together and that...so it can be helpful...
But from the video idk what the guy did bout the ground points on the AV or VGA seems he soldered on the audio ground to the AV and thats it...

I just bought the Microsoft VGA cable, it was $38.  It was worth it though.  The cheaper models had problems, and it outputted RCA.  I had an RCA-to-headphone jack adapter.  Now I play the 360 through my PC speakers.  I just swap the plug.

Microsoft screwed me with the price.  But the quality of the video output is the only thing I don't want to mess around with.

just look into the metal part of the cable and see if all the pins are there. and its not really risky i was rushing into it and took apart my cable to find that it was a new one and i put it back together in like 40 seconds

also go here for a more specific d-sub pinout
http://www.acl.co.uk/pinouts.htm
it takes a while to load, look at the monitor one.

it took me forever to figure this out but dont ground hsync or vsync. for me it didnt work until i took the grounds for those off

ahh yes these pics.. so u just ground the others huh. But when u ground them do u ground them just to another ground or to the like umm the blue and green and so i may just draw it out or something.

lolz i used that big gamestop multi console adapter and just chopped off the 360 connection and i has all the pins :P now i still have my component cable :victory:
Title: Re: AV+VGA

Ok so you just grounded the all the pins except for the h-sync and v-sync. Like say the red on the VGA is soldered to the ground on the VGA and then connected to the red on AV with ground touching the red on the AV.
Title: Re: AV+VGA
Post by: Winterz117 on September 19, 2008, 04:09:07 AM
well kinda. red goes to red and nothing else. red ground goes to red ground. if any of those are touching, like red to ground, it wont work. make sure nothing is touching like tat

ight so just dnt even wire the ground to each other just leave them be and wire the red and that.

each ground from the xbox plug has a corrosponding ground on the vga. exept hsync and vsync. well they have a ground but you dont really need it. are you going to use a headphone jack?
Title: Re: AV+VGA
Post by: Blazinkaos on September 20, 2008, 01:43:47 PM
ok but u didnt wire the ground from the av to vga u just left is all im asking. Yes i did get a headphone jack from my computer u kno the ones that are built in on the mother i solder that off that should im sure.

are you serious i have a pair of those same cables!! your talking about the component, normal cables that go to PS2/Ps3, Xbox, and Xbox 360 right?  My set of them is missing the pins, i actually went to radioshack and found some that had all the pins on clearance for $10 so i bought 3 sets of them and made 2 boxes already out of them, still debating about the 3rd set........       if you wondering about those cables they are universal cables, i think they were pelican or something like that......
