200gb 7200rpm harddrive.
100gb for vista
60 for osx
40 for linux
-
nice! i was planning on doing that on my new pc once built :P
-
I may have my PC built by Christmas. My friend has access to :censored:loads of computer parts and she's gonna get me some. Then there's Christmas itself =]
-
cool. maybe the you could have a bit more spacious hard drive.
with mine, im gonna have:
Vista 320 gb
Mac OSx86 220 gb
Ubuntu 100 gb
-
I plan on having:
1tb hdd for media and stuff
250gb for Vista
200 for OSX
and 150ish for linux.
I still have a 160gb hdd (my old one) that I want to get a sata>usb enclosure for and use that as backup/media
-
yeah, you dont want a repeat of last time ;)
-
Cool, i could do this easily lol, love bootcamp.
-
I'm not using bootcamp. It's a dell xps m1530.

well, with rEFIt, yes, normal bootcamp will only manage 2, and the whole linux boot stuff screws with what bootcamp sets up..
i told robin, and he seems to be usin rEFIt sucessfully, so if you're interested, ask him... iknow the name, but he's used it
-
oh right, im sure Bootcamp allowed you to do as many as you liked.
Not that i need any more than the mighty OS X and Xp.

i knorite?
i find windows and osx the best... you do kinda get what you pay for
-
Even though Linux can do everything windows and OS X can do, plus more, all free.
-
not really, and its not necessarily geared towards the average-know-nothing consumer, with command lines and all
any techie, even on the lowest level of knowledge can get it, but not most average hard working people who dont have time to worry about it- they just use windows because it comes on that nice pc they just bought, etc.
windows and osx really simplify things, making it mostly GUI oriented, while linux is, but not as much
and linux cannot play as many games
sure it has games, but not that many, and not all too great of a selection
despite being free
i only use linux on my crapmobile dell, just because its simple for this craptub to run, and it has a browser and chat app
i use windows for games (or browsing, etc. when i dont wanna reboot)
and osx for everything else, and the reason i dont triple or quadboot is that there is truly no reason for me to, i mean... really
games/everything else and i'm squared,
im not gonna take the time to add or illegally download another OS (like those stupid modified windows ones) just to see what its like or use it, then delete it
heck, every time i install a virtual machine under vmware i delete it because i never use it. just seems like a waste (though using smackbook for xp and osx was fun)
in the end, for me, linux is 'meh' at best
i like the philosophy, but i love OSX and game on windows too much to use somthing that i find no use for
i mean, kudos to them, really, they send out free cd's at their expense, and its all open... but i prefer paying for an OS (like paying for a good pair of Levi's jeans instead of buying your friends homemade ones)
though i can see why people want to; diversify/ test the limits of their system/ get an understanding for another operating system (like i hated vista after using it on a friends computer, but love it on mine)

I didn't read past "and Linux cannot".
Linux...linux IS everything.
To be honest you rarely need to use terminal if you're using it like an average user. There's INSTALLERS that install programs for you.
For instance. Wine. Wine is a windows emulator. You can run, you guessed it, windows apps on it.
Mac? VMWare. Windows OS? VMWare.
All done through a GUI BASED installer application. NO terminal commands or anything.
Linux is fully customizable and fully open source. And, there's nothing it can't do.
Games? It's got a lot. If not, VMWare or WINE.
Honestly, you haven't nearly even used linux if you think what you said.

i have, i am right now,
t'aint to great,
as for gaming with virtual machines, thats a poor way to game with little performance considering that the video card drivers are virtualized
sure theres directx9 enablement w/ pixel shader 2.0 , but that wont get you far
i know about wine becaues i have darwine in osx, to run small .exes like games (i made one and it seems to work)
as for mac os on a virtual machine, that is neither legal nor heavily supported
i know its done through GUI, but not all things are,
also for average consumers, the lexicon can be confusing- i ran an update and it gave me about 100 updates, all of which had names that made no sense to me, just random letters with numbers (of course they were software updates, and important)
it is fully customizable and open source, but i still dont like it
virutalization can only go so far...and its not far enough, for me at least
there's a lot of things it can't do for me, many, many things
let me think about what i said....yep, thats how i feel, and i've used it.. i am right now on my spare because im in the middle of combat with w/ aliens in Crysis Warhead (great game)
so honestly, i have used it and i have thougtht about what i've said..
its nothing against you, but when people say i havent used somthing just because i dont like it makes me a bit uneasy

Linux for me, is the OS that goes on Low Power PC's, for Web Browsing only.
Everything except Games is OS X, For Real Games, its XP.
Spore is the only real exception, as that games amazing on OS X.

i'd agree with that

I suppose. Which is why I'm triple booting.
I love linux though. I guess mainly cuz I know exactly what I'm doing o_O

exactly, which, in my argument above is not the situation for average joe, thus supplementing why i think its not the best for the general non-savvy population
in our case, the clearly more savvy, its no problem, so we can use it to the fullest, which supplements the fact that you think its the greatest; you can get the best out of it with your knowledge, etc.
to each his own, or in some of our cases, both our own, or thrice our own
-
Lol, I guess.
-
guess what. mac is a linux shell highly customized, i think thats the right wording. there both unix
-
Mhmmmm.
Doesn't mac have a unix based subsystem?
I think that's what you mean.

its really just unix based..rather far off from a custom linux, in fact, it now falls under its own category in terms of OSs
-
Ok noah stop posting in here and help me in my other thread please :'( :'(
-
Yeah, OS 9 was the last one to be a Linux Shell, OS X is know its own OS, but still based on the superior UNIX system.
-
DO they still make those hackintoshs as those were super cool
-
DO they still make those hackintoshs as those were super cool
You clearly don't even know what a hackintosh is.
A hackintosh is an intel based PC running OSx86. That's all to it. Go torrent a disk and install it, done.
-
Heh, wish I could install Mac on my new PC build, but there is no support for GTX 260 Core 216, is there? I know there is not and it is not worth it, I guess I am stuck on Windows Vista and Windows XP.
