Post by: sakobatoneko on September 30, 2008, 08:38:55 PM
my ps2 is showing a black screen when ever i turn it on, it also doesn't let me eject games. This all happened after trying to modify it, i googled and they said i need a new chip called BA5815FM. anybody know whats wrong?

A few questions for further diagnosis:

1: Is the green power light turning on when you power on the console?
2: Does the disc drive jam when the eject button is pressed, or does it not respond at all?
3: Is there a game disc stuck in the console?

I think the BA5815FM is the motor control IC for the DVD drive, and as far as I know the Ps2 should still boot into the BIOS fine with a defective or absent DVD drive.

A couple more questions:

1: What sort of modification did you make to the Ps2?
2: When you say "black screen," do you mean that the Ps2 outputs a full black frame, or that it outputs no audio/video signal at all?

If this happened after installing a mod-chip it could be due to incorrect wiring, beyond that though I am not really sure, there are many potential variables. It seems odd that a faulty motor driver IC would keep the whole thing from booting properly. Maybe this causes it to fail some security check?

it was a mod chip, and when i was installing it a blob of solder got on a few pins on a ic. i took the solder off with a desolder but still the black screen comes up. It displays a black screen and no audio, but my mod chip shows its configurations when i hold the buttons to go to it.

If you accidentally bridged some pins on the BIOS chip during installation, this could be the source of the problem. If you haven't already, use a multimeter to check all of the pins around your solder points, particularly the area where the solder went astray. Use the continuity/resistance setting to ensure that none of the pins are bridged.
