First off, all credit goes to 802Chives. I've been trying to figure out how to do this for months and he gave me the plan, and I executed it!! Thanks dude.
Warning!:This can be a costly project and the fumes from some materials are highly toxic!
Materials:
Oomoo 30 (mould)
Clear Cast 326 (polyurethane)
clay
gloves
cups
stir sticks
This is the Oomoo 30 that I used to pour the mould: It is a silicone rubber that is non-toxic. Silicone only sticks to silicone! Don't worry bout making a mess with this stuff.

I first started by hot glueing my factory buttons to a flat surface. I used old malimine ikea shelves, anything flat will do. Once they're secure use something to mould them into. I used extra large paper cups secured with clay to prevent leakage and to keep it still. (https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi412.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp204%2Fdont_smell_it%2FDSC03349.jpg&hash=19f0f9facd398d0301b08644fa810ae23e223f6e)
Follow mixing instructions. Pour in a very thin stream to pop any air bubbles. (https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi412.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp204%2Fdont_smell_it%2FDSC03352.jpg&hash=b62cbd9c26726aea8e5b4a40a76d210a5088fc9d)
6 hours later:

Next step is casting the poly. I had originally used another product which turned out, needed to be pressure cast or vacuum cast. Needless to say, it was really hard to mork with and I ended up with a lot of bubbles. Notice the name:So-strong? It really is SO-Strong, less than a friggin drop is needed. My first attempt, they came out almost redish. Pouring this is the same as the silicone, follow the mixing intructions, and pour it in a thin stream. Wait time: 16 hours, then still tacky for a week. :censored: THAT! That was the first stuff. The second was the clear cast 326. This stuff is awesome! It does have a very short pot life (7-9 minutes, not much working time), fewer bubbles (It's almost unavoidable, even with proffessional equipment), when cast without colour it looks very, very yellowie, but perfectly touchable in 90 minutes.(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi412.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp204%2Fdont_smell_it%2FWaiting.jpg&hash=daab361436f0caec224d47ad8e274684bab95cac)

Done.
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi412.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp204%2Fdont_smell_it%2FHold.jpg&hash=9a5f287f4db2355528c75807e9d6f9fdf10473cc)
See the bubbles....those are your enemies...though they're tough to get rid of without proffessional equipment.

Modding is all about custimizing; it doesn't get much more custom than that! It took a lot of time, a lot of F*ing money and a few trips to the city, cause there's one god damn store in a city of over 7 million people that sells this stuff!? Before anyone asks "what's the point?" it's cause I'm such an anal bastard that everything has to match. It's hard to light the ABXY with the same colour when the buttons are all different. Anyways, this was my first tutorial, I definitely know it's flawed but this is just a general guideline and far from perfect. Looking forward to your comments and criticism. Thanks for reading.

Thanx For the Props Dont_smell_it. You did all the hard work, I just planted the seed. Looks like it came out nicely, way to go!
And Welcome to Acidmods! Looking forward to seeing more stuff! :drunk:
-
that looks awesome, nice job, keep it up
-
Your font is huge...
Nice project though, I love it!
Maybe someone will find stuff to make them completely clear...or wait...Can this be used on whole shells if you have enough?!
-
Nice job thats pretty cool
How much did it cost you?

HAHA The font is huge. It's cause the pictures are so damn big I didn't want anybody to miss anything. There is stuff to make em completely clear it's just a lot harder to work with. You could make a controller shell if you wanted, but that involves doing half moulds. Again, pretty tough to do.
-
Pretty tough, but insanely possible!
That's so cool though, being able to make buttons/shells at home.
-
<jealousy> Holy crap! that looks great! </jealousy> i think its great when people take the time to do something the right way, and then it comes out looking like it was done professionally.
-
great job dude i was thinking about doing the same thing but with my vacuuform machine :P
-
awesome work man it actually turned out good. how much did this mod actually cost.. very curious
-
probly close to 80-100$
-
ooo dang i would have to work couple extra shifts at work to afford that..
-
its probly like 20-30 for the mold making and i think 50-60 for a gallon of the clear cast 326
-
is it hard and does it feel like a controller button because it lookl like it would feel jellowy :w00t:
-
hmm idk but it does look jewelry but it looked like it works well from the pics..
-
I talked to him and he got all of his materials from here if your curious.... Smooth-on.com (http://www.smooth-on.com/gallery.php?galleryid=189&cPath=1290)
-
oo thanks redryno im gonna check into this may do it some day when i make extra money. But having hard time finding where to buy the stuff especially so-strong i searched it too it just tells u bout it.
-
The So-Strong products can be found So-strong.com (http://www.smooth-on.com/Urethane-Plastic-a/c5_1119_1213/index.html?catdepth=1) OR Reynoldsam.com (http://www.reynoldsam.com/index.php?cPath=6_1118_1202&catdepth=1) but it's pretty expensive i'm still looking for better prices...
-
smooth on is the best there is just get clear cast 326 and its way cheaper to make vacuu form molds
-
clear cast is very clear...
clear cast 326...when cast without colour it looks very, very yellowie, but perfectly touchable in 90 minutes.
-
smooth on is the stuff u use to make the buttons right...
-
clear cast is the buttons themselves and the oomoo is for the mould u pour the clear cast into
-
I was wondering how much of that stuff you need to pour into does it come with. Did you use all of it to make those buttons? Or how many buttons do you think you could make wit hthe amount of stuff that came with it. Because if you could make like 10 sets of the buttons it would be worth 100$ especially since you could re use the mould.. so if you wanted to d oit more you would just have to buy the pouring stuff and not the mould
-
it comes with a gallon that will do alot of buttons
-
great job dude i was thinking about doing the same thing but with my vacuuform machine :P
yes definitely use a vacuuform or some sort of vacuum pump, you wont have those UGLY bubbles that make it look like carbonated soda
-
the vacuu form machine makes the mold, you will still get the bubbles. i think if you had some kind of aggitator to get the air out while it was drying that would work
-
man lot stuff u have to get to do this.. but the vacuum pump applies are or heat
-
Have any of you guys actually ever used a vacuum forming machine? BEcause It wouldn't come out even close to satisfactory quality, even if you used the thickest thermoforming plastic you could find.
-
no i havent i never seen one either..
-
i use them all the time and i just use plastic from a milk jug or 2 litre soda bottle, my method is all diy from household items i didnt buy anything. why wouldnt it come out satisfactory? ive molded stuff with more detail than the buttons and it comes out fine
-
mmm u should make a video on it
-

No offense, but siy vaccuum forming machines are even more laughable.
It s just a vacuum cleaner and a hair dryer.
:taunt:
-
yeah basically but it gets the job done. also, i use a paint removing gun, it works faster
-
man thats crazy dude make a video of u doing this i want to see this thing.
-
if i get the time plus my camera is really gay so i need to borrow a camera from my friend
-
ight thats cool. i just want to see this.
