Title: Right I Have A Broken PS3 To Fix
Post by: ProperBritish on October 29, 2008, 03:49:14 PM
60GB model

Disc Drive Not Working.

Accepts Discs, In and Out.

One movement is heard when disc is inserted, then nothing at all.

Disc DOES NOT spin.

My Prognosis: Failure Of The Disc Motor.

My Diagnosis: Disassembly of the Drive, Reassembly after cleaning. If drive is still failing, replace laser assembly.

My friends 60gig blu-ray drive stoped working. It doesn't take the disc all the way in just half way. He gave it to me and just bought a new one. Can I just buy a blu-ray drive and install it in the ps3?

I will tell you one thing..

Dust won't be the cause of a failed motor. Most likely worn itself out [bless the poor thing] .
Why not just replace the damn thing, by calling up sony and saying it is in warranty etc. Same thing works for PS3 as for the PSP.

I doubt that would work they want receipts and i already opened the ps3 anyway.

My friend gave me his ps3 now and said I can have it if I fix it but if I sell it he wants 15% of what ever I get. I have been looking around for blu ray drives and can't find any. If anybody could recomend a good site or shop to buy one let me know.

No, You dont know what I Am talking about...

You ring up sony, lie to them about warranty and fault.
They send round fedex, the Man with the Van gets out, you hand him the PS3, he hands you a fully working refurb.

End.

Your absolutely right, it does work the same way with the ps3 then it does with the psp, many people have tried it before.

there was a huge thing on the playstation forums where 1000's of people had failed disc drives for the 60gb model. either from playing GTA;IV or it wont read discs at all.

I am one of them. You need proof to show that you have warranty. The serial is on the receipt as well as the ps3, so they need to match. If its out of warranty,  then you pay 90 bucks to get it fixed and they give you another 90 day warranty. within 20 days of getting my ps3 fixed, my HDD failed. Not loading icons etc. Now they sent me the same ps3 internals but with a new outside shell. there was that much glue from the repairs that it was on the sides of the ps3..

I baby my stuff, covers, invisibleshields, etc. I treat my stuff right.
