well the hardest way but best would be to learn C++ not only would it be way better quality, but if you learned C++ you could get a pretty good job making software or games. Another much much mroe easier way would be a program called gamemaker. I actually used it for a couple years and once you learn how to use it good you can make some pretty good games. It can do any type of games . You can learn the code which helps alot, or you can use the drag and drop features. I would say if you have never coded in C++ or anything related to it definately do gamemaker. If you want to learn c++ which if an awesome language to know then go for the C++.

Plus gamemaker has a lite edition that is free or a pro edition that is 20$.

gamemaker website - yoyogames.com (http://yoyogames.com)

Also Dev C++ is a good c++ compiler that is free I dont know the official website name, but you can just go on google and type it in and itll come up.

If you need any help with gamemaker just pm me and ill help ya out I used to be pretty experienced with it.

Learn to code. Start with C/C++ and move to Java and Python. If you're looking for a quick fix or some sort of program you'd better trash that sort of thinking real fast.

Want to make a game from scratch like GTA4?

Hmm,

well, study advertisment, graphics etc in university

Then spend millions on a game design studio

hire a huge team of designers, programmers and testers of all sorts

then spend lots more on publishing the game

that should about cover it

yeah, theres no way you as a novice programmer (no offence) could build a game, maybe a small open source game but nothing like a game that comes for a multi-million dollar design studio..

I Find it Sad how you Talk like this. 3 people + me are Making an FPS/Tactic we did have a top down/3rd person but recent games came out and well lets say to void legal action we stopped. All tho we have  the storyline, Gameplay (this is a little iffy but we don't have time to make our own Engine So much Code it hurts), Some of the Character models, This is from the ground up. Its taken 2 years so far and its coming together nicely. you don't need multi-million dollar studios. just a dedicated group of people, Hardware, Software and Well having some money wont hurt. Some of the best Games were made by only 5-10 people.

True, but then agian, the people that make those games, it still takes them a very long time, and they are incredibly talented

Then getting it published is another thing

Yes sadly this is true.. We called emailed and had meetings quite a few people. all have just said sorry not at this time maybe at a later date. Its sad but hey We are still working on it, We are determined to get it Published. If we get it done we hope to start making games for Consoles.

Check out Microsoft.com for some of the Visual C++ software. Start there before. Cause The software we are using set us back quite a few thousand dollars.. I'm Not doing the Characters one of my partners are. Im sure Some of the Adobe Creative suite was involved. along with some Software to render the images 3D. Give me some time I can get you a list of everything we use.
