Title: screw driver
Post by: armis on December 11, 2008, 12:49:17 PM
hmm what kind of screw driver do i need for dissasembling a psp slim..? i have bought 6 pc set from radioshack , they are flat heads. Tried unscrewing screws on psp and failed with 2 of scredrivers that fit. Anyone can help me get a screw driver that would unscrew...preferably from mouser.com

You need a #000 and #00 philips screwdriver. I got a set from canadian tire. You should be able to get them from Radioshack or Lowes or something. Here's a set I found on the Radioshack website:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062774 (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062774)

It looks like one of them would work.

#000 Philips Head is what you need. #00 might strip it after a while.

Check ebay they usually have great ones.

Edit-
This one is what i have and its AMAZING.

idk i when i try unscrewing nothing happens... it slips while unscrewing in my hand...

Slip as in the screwdriver turns but nothing happens, or your hand turns but the screwdriver doesn't? If the screwdriver turns and nothing happens then either:

a) you stripped the screw
or
b) you're using too small of a screwdriver - try a bigger one.

I have that set. None of the screwdrivers work... I tried each one on each screw on the outside of my GoW Slim. They each just slip to a different spot when I try using them to unscrew each screw.

You know, your best bet really is to use Jumbo's link on ebay. It's only about 5 bucks and it's definitely going to work.

I heard it along time ago. And i saw on youtube that this guy bought psp and it was all  :censored: ed. Now...is it the only screwdriver i would need to open up my psp or id need something else?

http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12316     Is this one good? and WILL one screwdriver open all the screwS?

That's only good for two screws, and those two screws are only on certain slims. Buy from the guy Jumbo linked you to. eBay is not a scam. It's only the occasional seller, but I've never had a problem.

so if i buy one from jumbos link it will work on all screws?

This is what i use...except my set didnt come with all those bits. Only came with 4 double ended bits that store inside the screwdriver handle (the one in the picture looks like it has the same screw off top on the handle). This one is probably your best option though if you have a local home depot or even any local hardware store should carry it.

It prevents you from torqueing the screw too much as well.

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100646662&N=10000003+90401+502868+985

*EDIT*
Forgot that this one doesnt reach the 2 screws in the back of the case because its too wide where the bit slides in. But you should be able to find a "precision" #000 phillip at any local hardware store as well.

my dad bought me husky 6 pc screwdrivers. 2.0 flat and X also 2.4 and 3.0mm i opened my psp till the screen. it works well...and ur saying that i should buy the screw for 99 cents and the case? i looked up clear case and its very expensive.
So the case is cheaper there and the screw is cheap. (but is the screw used somewhere(or for only the razor mod)?

Yes that will be fine for your clear case mod, and NO you can't only buy the one stax offered. Like I said earlier, it will only work on certain psps and it will only remove two screws. Just buy the one Jumbo told you about and you should be able to use it on every single screw on most psps. To be on the safe side, buy Stax's too, since it's only $.99.

How you gonna say that, when i just finished saying that "this is what i use". Yes I use it for every single screw in the psp. As long as you have any #000 phillips screwdriver, it will work on any psp for every screw. One thing to avoid are magnetic screw drivers though.

I can say that, because he is saying that you offered a torx screwdriver, WHICH ONLY WORKS ON TWO SCREWS ON THE CERTAIN SLIM PSPS!

Yeah I know you get it. Staxx just didn't seem to. But yeah 2 sets of different screwdrivers will do fine.... AS LONG AS THEY ARE #000 PHILIPS! Lol
