Title: usb charge mod breaks GoCam?
Post by: juice0187 on December 26, 2008, 04:08:20 AM
would the psp loop the gocam if its moded to usb charge?
i know the gocam draws power from the two prong near the usb port but would the psp still draw power from the +5 volt prong on the go cam?
or does the go cam only use -data and +data without the +5 volt and ground?

this worries me since i own a gocam and already moded my psp to charge via usb.

He's asking because he didn't want to risk frying it.

The gocam takes power from the PSP itself, not the usb socket

There are these gold contacts, that power the go cam, whereas the usb socket doesnt power it

i know it takes power from the gold contacts on each side of the psp usb port.
but the gocam also has the usb plug and like any other usb cable it also has ground and +5volt pins
in its usb, thats why i asked if it loops the gocam

example of what could happen:
1) the gocam draws power from its two gold pins.
2) the psp being usb moded charges battery from the usb port (in this case the gocam).
3) the psp draws power from the battery.

and this 3 steps will just repeat in a never ending cycle.

kind of complicated but do you get it.

It wouldnt loop, the go cam wouldnt send any current through the actual USB (Apart from data), although that would be signal, plus the USB charge mod is a Positive, and you wouldnt send a current down a positive (like the wrong way if you get what I mean) also I dont think the charge is 'directly' connected to the battery, i think its connected first to some kind of PIC that will let it charge and when theres no battery, it will use it DC 5V

Also im guessing there are many surface mount diodes to make sure anyway (so you cant flip the battery etc)
