Do any of you know how to paint the ps3? I want to Paint my PlayStation 3 I'm still trying to decide on stuff
like color, trim color, some led's maybe, also any other stuff.
But the reason I posted it in here is I need to know how to paint the PlayStation 3 and Controller.
-
Plastic sticking spray paint from Keylon or something......I know I spelled the name wrong, but I KNOW it starts with a K....and just use some paper stencils, cut then out w/ an exacto knife or something =D
-
Krylon Fusion, Dupli-color, etc.
I'm not particularly sure what surface the ps3 is (plastic, metal, etc.) but if it's plastic, then you can just sand it well, prime, sand, prime, sand, paint, sand, paint, sand, paint, sand, clear coat, sand :)
-
ALL those steps?
any way its gonna be June before if I want to void my warranty if not its gonna be next Christmas
I'm thinking some led's and other stuff

refresh my memory of why you sand a clear coat AFTER spraying it?

You can also remove the ps3 chrome text and put it back on later. It's similar to the psp ring.
-
Oh oops sorry, wasn't paying attention to how many times I wrote sand. =\

how would i keep the playstation 3 logo on it?
just dig at it with a hobby knife like the psp

it has adhesive on the back of the letters, similar to the ring on the psp. they also have a grove that they go into, again similar to the psp umd ring. You just take them out with an excato knife or your other preferred method, paint then put them back in later.

so would i have to cover up the place they go?
to prevent them from getting filled with the coats and that?

no, there should still be adhesive on the letters.
-
no I mean the indentionr where they go to keep them from getting filled with the paint and clear cote.

think about it for a sec. Yeah the little holes that the letters go in get raised a little when you paint, BUT when you paint the surface of the ps3 EVERYTHING gets raised a little. So the amount of space before and after in the hole is the same.
-
ok thanks didnt really think bout that
-
you could just use masking tape and tape over letters then you can spray whole ps3 and then peel of masking tape and voila the letters are still pristine condition :hifive:

you could do that too, but sometimes the paint goes thru the masking tape or it's not put on right. either way it's still a pain to cut it to the exact shape of the letter.
-
the new PS3's dont have chrome lettering on the top as the old ones. the new ones letters are just painted on. best way is to just ditch the letters, or if oyu must keep them, tape and a hobby knife.

is the chrome by the dvd slot painted too? If so that really got to suck for the people getting the newer ps3s. 60gb ftw.
-
Crap really I want to keep the PlayStation 3 logo on it but
I don't want to have to use masking tape to mask them
then also the PlayStation 3 thing will be lower than the
paint by a bit.
-
Not if you sand it off first. Plus it'll be so small you probably won't notice.
-
well ill try when i start to paint it
also need some color options im thinking
red body black trim, blue body red trim. but what do you think?

blue body, black trim sounds awesome.

what about led's i might cut the ps3 logo out put some plexiglass in the logo and put some led's to make it light up : ]

you can do that too, or you can have it etched by someone later.
-
What do you mean like some one etch the case of the ps3?
-
yup
-
cool i think im gonna go with the plexiglass because leds+ps3+paintjob=rare
i might get
"AcidMods.com
The leaders in modding technology"
engraved on the case because i love AM
Also thanks to everyone helping thanks again

That would be cool, I would personally have a design etched instead of putting a website, but that's just me.
Also thanks Cloud it seems like your the one helping me the most thanks again
Why are you thanking me? bustinthejustin, P3nnyw1se, and gamerdude767 provided all the REAL information. I just gave you my opinion, if anybody needs to be thanked it's them (because now I know how to paint my ps3 white :P).
-
im probably gonna get a design but i love am so much im probably gonna get that on there.
-
are you still planning on painting it? or are you going to etch a design in there?
-

Good luck with that,
You would also have a hard time getting someone to engrave a ps3.
And another thing, a coat of paint is going to add way less than a millimeter of depth to the ps3, unless you don't have a clue on how to paint.
And the sanding is NOT to make the paint layer thinner, it is to smooth it.
-
A design would go cool with the ps3. Make sure you leave time for the paint to dry and wear a mask so you don't breath in all that bad stuff.
-
well i was looking around......i found this it looks awsome im gonna paint it like this in june.
