Okay so I live in the us and I was looking for a alternative to a pay monthly pvr. I came across the play tv and fell in love. and then it broke my heart. :cry2:.
I found out that it can only be used on uk ps3s. So i was wondering is it only because of the cable or the actual console itself. And does anyone foresee this coming to the us?
I really want one of those. and if there is no chance of it coming to the us what would be a good alternative?
-
It think it's because UK tv is different then US tv

different type of signal to the TV. That's why you have a bunch of NTSC (us) to PAL (UK) converters on ebay. That way people buy the consoles from the US. and play them on their tvs. That way they don't have to modchip and wait 3-5 months (or if its ever released) for games to get there. A lot of people import their games from here.

okay so if I bought one of these converters and a uk ps3 I could have the play tv? Or would it still not work?
Noob to over seas stuff =p
-
no its to do with the way that tv is broadcast in the uk as i think it uses a different bandwidth or frequency than the usa and might be encoded differently hence why the play tv addon wont work in the usa
-
Oh okay well I will have to find an alternative. Any suggestions?

you can install linux and let that handle your dvr stuff

very interesting. Well I have not bought my ps3 *YET* but I would like to know if doing things such as upgrading the hard drive and installing linux will void the warranty.
-
sony actually supports you doing such things as installing linux and putting a bigger hard drive in. Neither will void your warranty as the ps3 was designed to let remove the hard drive and the ps3 os lets you install linux.

well that is cool. But after today I no longer am looking for a pvr. I bought a tuner card at circuit city today! Scanning for channels now. But I still am going to buy a ps3 later on so I will have blu ray. Or I may just buy a blu ray drive for my computer.
-
get a ps3 its the best blueray player out therend you will need a decent computer to play blue ray at really good quality without jitters
