EDIT: Ok I don't think I can fix this so can anyone point me in the right direction for replacing my DVD drive? (Most specifically the type of drive I need.) Thanks.
My Xbox was running fine last night, but when I turned it on today, this happened. I've read about how it might be something with a magnet, but I didn't fully understand what they were saying. Also, there's a weird clicking noise in case you can't hear it.

What drive do you have now?
-
From what I could find out it's a BenQ drive.
-
Sounds Like a Bad Motor the clicking I mean.
-
So does Microsoft repair this for a fee? Or would I just be better replacing it?
-
My friend gave a RROD System with a benq and I get a similiar problem with the noise the drive makes. I haven't tested if it reads games or not but when I close the drive, it makes a weird sound.
-
Ok well I guess we're both stuck. If you find anything out I'd be more than happy to know.

I'm gonna be fixing the RRoD tomorrow once I get a Torx T8 and T10. I'll test the dvd drive with a old xbox game since I don't have any 360 games yet.

You are better off replacing the whole DVD unit. I would advise you to replace the laser lens but since there is a possibility of an additional internal problem pertaining to the noise, You are better off changing the whole thing. I have been in a similar situation before. When changing the whole unit, keep in mind to swap the DVD unit's motherboard from the old unit to the new one. If not, then you would have to flash the new unit in order to make it work properly. Due to the sentative nature of this situation I cannot go into details. Good Luck..
-
Ok thanks. Just swapping the drives without flashing is legal right? If so, do I need another BenQ drive or can I use any brand?
-
Yes, stay with BenQ DVD drive because when swapping dvd drive motherboard from old to new, the original motherboard will only work with BenQ drive unit. This way, there is no reason to flash and is perfectly safe and legal. The motherboard should fall right into place and its ribon connections.
-
Ok, so I fixed the RRoD on my system. The BenQ works perfectly. It just makes a weird noise when the disc tray closes but it reads discs fine.
-
Hmm that's weird. Well I guess this gives me the motivation to open my box up, cut a window, put in some LEDs, change my dvd drive, paint my xbox, and maybe more ;)

I just swapped the ROL to blue and it looks great! I'm thinking if I should put in the error LEDs or not.
