yeh you should be fine as my pc at one point was hooked up to my computers 5.1 surround sound system, my stereos surround sound system and a random set of speakers i found all at the same time and it worked and was very loud when i cranked all the speakers up to just before distortion point

and it was through aux that i connected my stereo

yes, you can do it. I had it done on my computer for some time. I had mine hooked up with the ipod to rca cord. Aka 2.5mm to red and white. Whenever I hooked it up though the sound would only come out of two channels because of the connection type. A possible solution would be to use this adapter: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=270334662842 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=270334662842)
just backwards. In other words make up two wires that are 2.5 mm on each side and run them into one side of it and plug the other side of the wires into the back of your computer in the green and black ports and then just run a red and white (rca) cord to the stereo from the other side of the adapter.
