Title: CPU question
Post by: isaac gs0 on February 22, 2009, 08:50:52 AM
So yesterday i bought everything for a new computer. and im no stranger to building computers but...
The Formula Maximus II motherboard didnt come with a preinstalled cpu so i got a quad core. Now i need to install the cpu myself something i have never done before and something im a little scared to do. i have the basic concept from what i have learned in school and read online.
So im wondering if anyone has some tips on installing it so i dont throw $300 down the drain.

Don't bend any of the pins.

The CPU is keyed so it will only fit in one direction. So don't force it.

It's alot easer than you think. If you have any other questions just ask

And make sure to use your esd wrist strap

And also dont be confused by what tec said. Your processor is more than likely going to be a lga775 which in turn means that the processor does not have any pins. It is just going to be flat on the bottom of the processor. Whenever you put the processor in look on the side of the processor for and arrow and put that arrow torwards the side of  the cpu socket that is different than the rest of the socket.

what he said.

There was no specification as to what CPU was being used and I didn't feel like playing detective.

ya i have tried couple times, cant figure it out.

It does have OC at the push of a button, two BIOS's that you can switch between for performance, this is the Republic Of Gamers edition.

After im done testing everything ill post some pictures, i dont care for the stock PSU in this sirius case cables are ugly and hard to manage,

EDIT: So everything is working just fine... almost the power supply that came stock has a 24-pin EATXPWR, 4-pin EATX12V and i need 8-pin EATX12v so looks like this wont be running until later this week. so far everything is shaping up just fine.
