i was thinking about doing an led mod pretty soon but i dont want to lose the functionality of my wifi or hold switch so i was wondering if it is possible 2 add in my own switch to activate my leds. has anyone done this? and how exactly would the wiring be different for this mod?
thanx in advance

Of course its possible. Just have to find a nice looking small switch and just have ground one contact and the other goes out to your led circuit.
-
oh great ! i'll be ordering the leds soon as well.
would this work? : http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062544&y=16&y=10&x=5&x=7&retainProdsInSession=1&retainProdsInSession=1&numProdsPerPage=60

that'll work but that switch looks like dog chit :winker:
-
lmao i tried to find something small because i want to fit and internal chotto shot in the psp too but im not 2 sure on where to put the switch
-
That switch will be HUGE on the psp. It's rated for 12v automotive use. I'd try to find the smallest one you can. You'll have difficulty finding a place for it if it's too big.
I'd put the switch along the right side of the psp. There is a big empty space there. Only thing is you'll have to cut a small notch out of the trim to fit it.
You will also need a small switch to use for the chotto. You have to put it on the data+ line. Otherwise you lose the functionality and you won't be able to connect to your computer anymore.
-
woah didnt know i would have 2 install a switch on the chotto...i guess i'll have 2 look into that
-
All it does is makes the psp think that the chotto isn't connected anymore. That way you can still connect to the computer. The switch only has to disconnect the data+ line when you want to use the USB for computer use.

Normally you would get the smallest DIL switch you can find (normally has 8 switches ^^), and cut one off with a Dremel, and then cut some of the trim away and solder two wires anywhere in the circuit.
Still, with the WiFi switch you do bridge two pins with solder so that you can still use WiFi, so I think that probably would be the best option for you.
EDIT: For the LEDs, that is, not the Chotto.

I would say adding your own switch is easier than soldering the wifi spot, especially if your new to modding. You can get dil switches in sets of one. it would save you having to cut one off of a block. Order the 1 way 2pin version for just one switch. I've used them for my nightshade slim and they work just as well and you don't mess up the wifi. Always a plus :)
-
You don't mess up the wifi if you use the wifi switch. You just make it so that you cannot turn it off.

Exactly, the whole point of having a wifi switch is so you can turn it off. I know it doesn't take alot of power but that is power that you could be using for gaming.

Does it use power all the time, I thought it only used power when yoou actually use the wifi(when the wifi light is on). I never turn my switch off so thats why I said that you don't really need it.
