Ok, I want to replace the busy icons on the front and add a LED to the hold, I also want to have sound reactive LEDs in the triggers and 2 in the UMD door for the "Ring of light", I want to be able to turn them on and off with the wifi switch. This is my first mod. Links are wanted!! So what kind of LEDs do I need and what other parts do I need to make this work? I was told and have seen people use the lamp LEDs (not SMT) in the triggers (drill a hole in them), is that how I do it? I really need answers so I can start. I have googled but have gotten lots of different answers so I am uncertain, I would appreciate help from the pros here.

U need 0603 SMT LEDS.
Along with a 15watt soldering iron, rosin core solder, and I suggest a solderingbraid.
Also, you'll need 30 gauge wire, and flux paste will help.
THe tutorials are in the tutorial section (obviously)

I would suggest using the search function of the forums, as it will answer ALL the questions you ask.
Just take your time and alter the search terms as needed.
Before you ask anything else, do a through search.

*Looks confused where teh red starts* *reads over and over* *still looks confused*
I only learned how to solder today so...

use google and you'll understand everything
-
dude, instead of getting soldering braid
get the little vacuum thing, its SOOOOOOOOO much better

I already said, I keep getting lots of different answers. I need to get all the info from 1 place so it all makes sense.

Dont double post bro, and how old are you?
I had a basic knowledge of soldering before I started.
You should do the same.

I'm 14 , sorry for double post. I've been practicing soldering most of the morning and afternoon today. What do you think? am I skilled enough to try the LEDs now?

Not really lol, SMD shouldn't have CLOSE to that much solder.. Practice actually soldering things not just putting tin onto pre-soldered parts..

Yeah lol I was just having some fun. But it was the only thing I had to practic on, I've been doing more and taking off the old solder looks good. So I think im ready.

dude, you HAVE to practice soldering 2 things together, not just replacing solder

Yeah I have, those were the pics in the first 2 hours of soldering for the first time :D
Since then (now) I have, maybe if i got time I'll take pics.
Here is my second soldering with wires! Ok, just to let you know it LOOKS like I used alot of solder on the joints, but these are extremely zoomed in shots if I put a US dime down and put the camera over it it would take up the hole shot lol. Also if you see any huge blobs of solder that's when I first got the iron and was just fooling around. :drunk:  What do you think? Oh, also the wires were some scraps I found around the house so they are really.. not good for use... but just good to practice with.

**EDIT**
I'm am so sorry, I did not realize this was a double post, I was just being careless. :sadno: :sadno:
GhoSt: Fixed it for ya :)

dude you need more practice, you striped far to much insulation from that wire and use far to much solder on your joints. This is my first solder job on a psp, I practiced on a broken wifi board (knew I still had this lying around. See how little wire was striped, tho abit overboard on some of the solder.

Those are the pins of the memstick contacts, soldering is pretty average.

Didn't you read? I didn't have any wire except some SCRAPS laying around the house so I used the SCRAPS to practice, when I actually do it I am going to BUY wire. This stuff was like left over from school science experiments/projects or something.
-
It doesn't matter if they were scraps, there was way to much exposed wire, you could have even used sissors to trim that if you had to.

Dude, it was an old circuit board from a broken laptop I was not actually even trying to do anything I know how much to strip chill... it was scraps

w/e, stuff my advice, go mod then.
Have a good day.
sorry if I have come off as a bit off a ass, but I hate to see people power into modding then drop out because they screwed something up. But If you are confident with your skills, then go for it.

I am very confident, I have experience, I learn well, and I can improvise very well. I also understand electronics for the most part (I still don't know EVERYTHING) but I enjoy learning. I by no means am plowing into this or going to drop out. I am doing all my research before I even start.

Ok look you keep saying you know what your doing, so stop asking us questions you know answers to!

-
Yeah your smart-alec answers are pissing people off. Oh I know I have lots of experience I know it all I can solder I'm all good. Waaaait. How you do this again?
