Hey guys,
I'm new to the whole overclocking thing and was just wondering if anyone could help me out. I would like to achieve around 3.4 Ghz. Onto the specs:
CPU: Intel i7 920
MOBO: Asus P6T Deluxe
RAM: DDR3 3gb 1600mhz
GPU: 512mb 9800GTX
PSU: 850W
OS: Vista 64-bit
Cooling: intake fan at the front 23cm side fan, exhaust fan
CPU Cooling: Intel i7 Socket 1366 Stock Cooling Fans
Now I know there are two methods of doing it. Using Turbo V and doing it through BIOS. Which way is better and safer ? Also is there any other software that I should have to test stability and temperature ?
Thank you
Max

your pretty much safe as today's mobos are easily used for overclocking and will just turn off if overheating or something else is wrong

So how do I actually do it lol ? What do I change. I know the CPU voltage isn't allowed to go over 1.6V and that RAM is used as the multiplier..I THINK.

Well basically in a nut shell you jack up the front side bus and the voltages until you get the speed you want. DO IT IN SMALL STEPS. Or you will end up not being able to boot. So if your front side bus is 1200 then go to 1300 boot up and try again.

whats ur temps at max load
mines around
46C to 56c

I don't know, I don't have any software to check ? Do any of you guys know how to use the Turbo V program to OC it?
-
Hey Max Don't OC with Stock Heatsink and Fan,Get a New heatsink and fan and if your not already using Arctic Silver Thermal paste I suggest doing so.. Also Overclock it threw the BIOS its safer... Just don't OC with Stock Cooling. Once Stock Cooling has be ran with OC'ed hardware your Temps will never be the same.

How come ? What if you OC and then put it back to normal, will the temps go back to normal then ? By how much would the temps rise if it was OC'd to 3.4ghz ? Also I've seen on youtube people using stock cooling like me:

Yeah, it's possible, but it's too dangerous with overheating.
