ok so i got a friend who apperantly thought he could solder he was hooking up direct contact LEDs to the ground and 5v spots by the right speaker jack and he droped a glob of solder on the board right beside the pins he tried scraping it off with a rotary tool :faint: now when he puts the board back in the psp and tries to turn it on the green light flashed for a second then nothing any clue if i can fix this for him and if so how or should he just go buy a used psp and start fresh

He probably cut traces you/he may need a new mobo or whatever board it is that he dropped the solder on then tried to scrape off just thinking about that makes me need to put another *faceplam*.... lol

(ApheX rubs his forehead and sighs) Tell your freind he's/she's is an idiot. I've never heard of Anyone using a dremal to take of solder. I mean, what normal would?! ok, try removing the solder with a DE-SOLDERING BRADE or DE-SOLDER GUN (not a dremal!!!). looking at where the solder was dropped, you might have got away with a shorting problem. it might be that there is a little solder shorting the mobo, hence it not starting up. If when you remove the solder you still have this problem, get a new board because that one is lost to the cause.
.....Oh, and don't let your friend anywhere near a solder iron untill they learn to use one properly.

i am looking for my desoldering braid now i have told them time and time again if they want LEDs let me or someone who knows what there doing do it will post back once i find the braid and let you know how it went (trust me i was shaking my head when he pulled it out to show me i asked him wtf he was thinking) as youy can see in the pic he don't know what hes doing when i asked where the black clip for the backlight was he told me i don't know went flying off somewhere :faint: :faint:
ok heres what the board looks like now i took and got all the solder off the spot that he dremeled

the funny thing is the kids studing to become a mechanic and the exact words outta his mouth was i can rebuild an engine a psp can't be much harder LOL

the 2 powerboards i tryed work cause there brand new just got them the other day in the mail from dx tried one of them in another psp i got torn apart and it booted with the powerboard so its his mobo i got another one coming for it today thanks guys for all the help on it
-
Well yeah, the damaged was done to the mobo and not the power board as you can clearly see.
Do me a favor and punch your bud right in the face because of this, haha.
-
I had this same problem before. I was soldering near that area and all the solder somehow got stuck to the orange ground spot. Now the mobo is dead just like that one. The green light just flashes and turns off.
-
since i took the desoldeing braid to it the green light dosen't even flash anymore so i told him the mobo is dead i got a new on the way for it though its going to cost him LOL
-
since i took the desoldeing braid to it the green light dosen't even flash anymore so i told him the mobo is dead i got a new on the way for it though its going to cost him LOL
The green light stopped flashing so I bridged the power fuse and now it still just flashes once and turns off.
-
i tried bridging the power fuse on it and still the light dosen't even flash i think the board is dead i have tried everything fixed the ground and 5v point by adding small dab of solder to replace the ones he stripped off with the dremel (which i told him he better hide next time i come over i'm smashing his dremel with a hammer LOL) like i said i got a new board coming for it and he's paying for that and the mods i am doing for him i also plan on gorilla glueing it shut when i am done so he can't open it back up LOL
-
i also plan on gorilla glueing it shut when i am done so he can't open it back up LOL
That would be a bad Idea. If you don't, when it breaks, you can still sell the parts :p
-
i know i'm not going to use gorrilla glue on it just going to tell him i did so he dosn't tear it apart anymore LOL
-
lol if hes willing to use a dremel to remove solder i wouldnt be surprised if he tried to cut his case open with a dremel if you glued it XD
but yeah tell him to use commonsense next time. you said he thought he could do it but failed right? dont u hate that? im like to my friends one day "man i modded my psp..." and theyre like "so? all u did was solder a few leds man. anyone could do it." my friends would probably end up worse than ur friend haha
-
the funny thing is the kids studing to become a mechanic and the exact words outta his mouth was i can rebuild an engine a psp can't be much harder LOL
yeah i told him i'll fix psps and mod them and he should just stick to fixing cars LMAO
-
